duayned, it's almost the 25th, have you found one to call your own yet? :thumb:

I got mine on Monday the 23rd. I must have got the same one as Jason above. My MSRP was also 39,390. You can see my prices quoted a couple posts above, for the exact same model, one blue, and one grey. Mine is grey, 2LT, FWD, DVD, trailering, leather/heated seats, sunroof.

If you read my post above, I ended up going with the small town dealer. Got treated well. Got them some info on the phone ahead of time, and when I got there, they had washed it, filled out the paperwork, and was out of there in a half hour. Also got me a full tank of gas. Very good experience. Even got to pet the friendly showroom cat.

Greene County Motors, Jefferson Iowa
2009 Traverse 2LT Grey Metallic. Options: Overhead DVD, Trailering, Sunroofs, Leather/heated/power seats
MSRP 39,390
selling price 36840
(2550 off MSRP)
minus consumer cash 750
minus bonus 1500
minus Davenport Iowa auto show bonus 500

for a quoted price of 34090
(5300 off MSRP)

I also had 3200 in GM Card with got me to 30890
(8500 off MSRP)

I did not have a trade in. I sold my 03 Venture privately the day before.
I had to pay the dealer $50 in doc fee (very fair to me, big city dealer told me "somewhere around $185" they wouldn't quote me an exact number when talking to two different people. I didn't like that. I also was offered a chance to talk to the sales manager, and I said, "Sure have him call me back. He never did. That sealed the deal for me not buying their blue 2LT. I really was considering buying their Traverse-despite being $80 more, I kinda liked the blue better. But I am good with the Grey I got.)

Other stuff not related to the dealer:
$1707 in tax (5% in Iowa on the amount before the GM Card)
$189 in title and license fee

Got mine Monday.
Black Cherry Metallic LTZ
$40700 MSRP
$35500 out the door. Did not take the rebates. Opted for the no interest. $2250 in rebates or paying 6-7K in interest was a no brainer.
That included a 6yr/100k GMPP. $100.00 deductible

Good deal and my favorite color

First, just want to say thanks to jasonp5, civilguy, rdonchann, etc., and especially Herdcyclone (for his super-deal details) for posting their deals.

Hey six, thanks for asking, but in a word, no.
Had all my ducks lined up in my plan to get final bids from my dealers this week, and buy one from the lowest bidder this weekend, but my wife got cold feet and says she wants to test drive a few other competing models before we pull the trigger.

While I will be the primary driver and have been doing all the research, etc., she will be partly paying for it and our teens will be using the car some over the next few years as they get their licenses. So of course, I had to abide by her late wavering.
She thinks the Traverse might be just too big, but otherwise likes it fine, and I'm betting she'll agree on it in the end.
But unlike me, doesn't feel right making it THE choice without looking hard at Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Veracruz, maybe the Mazda CX-9. (It's too bad the Honda Pilot is so plain ugly, or it would in the running, for sure.)
So my plans are to buy now at the end of March. Inventories here on Long Island are still good, so supply/selection is no worry. March is at the end of the first quarter -- I may catch that one dealer scrambling to make his quarterly sales goal.
My only worry is that GM may cut off some bonuses, given its near-bankruptcy financial condition, but we shall see.

Duayned,

I dont know about your area but in the panhandle of Fl there is a push for dealers to sell a certant amount of GM vehicled no mater what so they can get some sort of GM bonus. Down here it end on Monday 2 Mar 09.
I still doubt I would gotten a better deal that what I got. I did call my first dealer that I went to when we were going to purchase and they said "we could have sold you the same vehicle for the same price". We they had there chance but did not want to make a sale.

Have a Look around this weekend. Remember that incentivaes change on 3 Mar 09 and no one not even the dealers will know until GM releases it.

Thanks, guapo.
That's exactly what I was counting on in my original plan: Some dealers are actually willing to lose money on a deal to make a bonus goal.
But my hands are tied now until after that March 3rd date, since I waited too late to bring my wife into the picture.
I foolishly thought she'd accept my indisputable logic ::) about buying the Traverse and buying it now.
You'd think after 26 years of marriage I'd know better. :banghead:
Dealers will still be hungry in March, so I'm not too worried though. I'm going to approach several dealers, let them know I'm a serious buyer, I don't want to play games and see who really wants to sell me a car.
Absolute "worse-case" scenario: I can wait 'em out until the 2010's come rolling in and "pick on" a dealer who still has a lot full of 2009's. ;D

DuaynedD,
I went to 3 dealers before I purchased. 1st one Preston Hood Ft Walton Beach Fl, where I had purchased my Trailblazer and figured I would get a good deal ::) and where I droped off my wife during my lunch hour and told her make the best deal. I told the sales manager and the sales lady that my wife has full authority to buy what she wants. She called me 2hr later and said I'm leaving they don't want to sell a car. 2nd Sandy Sansing (Pensacola FL) & 3rd one (Terry Thompson Daphine AL) I just called and informed them that a am pre-approved by GMAC for 0.0 or 1.9 and gave them my deal both said they could not do it. They were both very nice, but again they did not want to make a sale. 4th one Pete Moore Pensacola Fl, called and said they would need to see my trade so I went there on Presidents Day and then again was told me no deal, so I told them that I was leaving and left them my cell number. I did not even get out of tha parking lot and got a call and put the deal togother. Thats when I was told about the GM incentavies that they needed to sell a # of cars to get the bonus.

Then I email the first one told them that I got my deal, and they told me "we could have done that deal". Heard that before, :eyebrow:

A foot note of what I learned was If the dealer has to locate a car from another dealer and have it brought in they have to split the dealer hold back with the dealer they got the car from. At least thats what I was told.

Good intel, Chief.
The more we know, the better we deal.
Well, the best dealer won, in your case, and got your business.
Thanks!

MSRP 39,585
Invoice 35,783 Employee Pricing

T4 -- Sounds sweet.
Just curious, do you know how did the 35,783 Employee Pricing compared to the invoice price (including the options cost), before the other discounts were taken?

Traverse 1LT FWD Cyber Grey w/ trailering pkg (wanted AWD, but very hard-to-find, did not want to pay for the back up camera and a lot of the vehicles on the lot had them)

3/3/09
Smith Chevrolet in Hammond, IN

MSRP $32,040 (incl dest)
qualified for GM supplier discount which got it to about $30,500
did the 0% for 60 months so didn't get Chicago auto show cash, President's Day money, etc
got $1,000 "bonus" cash (which I think is two $500 incentives from GM to the dealers)
traded in a 2002 S10 Crew Cab (which CarMax and another dealer offered me $6,000 for)
$22,306
$24,000 out-the-door with 7% sales tax and a $15 titling fee (they waived all doc fees to make the deal)

I walked in and said, "With my trade-in, I need to walk out the door paying X, however you need to get to it." The first dealer said he could do no better than X plus $747. I said I could not do that, and I walked out. Ny husband was heart-broken and I pretty much had to drag him out of there. He really wanted that car. I was stoic. I don't need a new car. I said, "Let's just go to some other dealer, tell them we will buy it right now today if they sell it for X.". He thought I was batty (but he often thinks that, so it's not like it's news). They came back with X plus $1500. I said, "That's a shame, because I would've bought it and would like to have it." They said, write the number here and initial it and I will take it to my boss. I did, and they took it.
I bought the it from a dealer in an "Enterprise Zone" which is a nice way of saying economically blighted. There are certain considerations granted to businesses in the enterprise zone so their ongoing costs are lower (lower taxes and even some subsidies to retain/attract businesses). Perhaps this is why they were able to meet my price and the good neighborhood dealer just a mile from my house couldn't (I go to Story Time at the library with the dealer who did not sell me my car...he saw the new wheels on Monday and complimented me on my sweet ride).

2009 1LT FWD Dark Metallic Blue

SarcastiCarrie,

First of all, nice moniker. Would so fit my wife, too, whose name also happens to be Carrie. ;D
Congrats on your great deal! And thanks for the excellent details on your take-no-prisoners approach.
(Funny line about almost dragging your crestfallen DH out the door. But you showed him it was worth it in the end, because you definitely ended up in the right dealership at the right place at the right time.)

So, when they took your offer of "X" to the boss, he basically just said "deal"? No counteroffers of "X plus $500," then "X plus $250," the way they often play the game?

Sorry to hear you couldn't get the AWD. If I still lived in the Midwest (Missouri), I'd absolutely want AWD too. But I'm hearing really good reports about the FWD/stabilitrak/18" Goodyears performance in most snow situations. Let us know about your experience, if you happen to get any more snow before Spring.

Great post -- please do more!

No, they did not come back with anything. We walked in and said, "We just left Other Local Dealership and they couldn't do this deal. If you'd like to sell the Traverse today, we will buy it." We told them how close the other dealer came (+$757) and told them we walked out of there. He asked if we wanted to see it or drive it, and we said, "No, can you do this deal? I have my supplier authorization number in my purse to buy today."

They were really busy (having let quite a few people from their sales staff go and it was a Sunday, near closing time, and beautiful weather) so we had to wait for the numbers guy a bit, but it wasn't bad. I'd already taken the trade to CarMax and the Other Local Dealer (along with checking KBB and Edmunds), so I knew about where that should fall and they came back with a higher trade to start, but they were still +$1500.

I said something like, "I'm a nursing mother and don't have a lot of time before I need to get back to Grandma and Grandpa and feed the baby so if you can do it, I'll buy it and if not, thank you for your time and I'll go feed the baby." That's when he asked me to write my number and initial it. (I always try to throw that nursing mother thing in because men can get really spooked by it and just believe whatever you just said.)

You're something else. :thumb:
By coincidence, I find the same thing happens when I tell people I left my gun in plain view in my car and I need to get back and put it away before some thief sees it! (Works equally well on both women and men.) 8)

I'm looking at a 1LT with the trailering package, black granite metallic, and 7 passenger seating. The MSRP is $32,630. Employee price is $30,930. With the 2,250 off it would be $28,680. Do you guys think that would be a good deal? Am I missing any incentives or anything?

Hi Wes,

I don't know where you live, but I'd say $28,680 isn't bad at all for a 1LT (FWD?), esp. given the extra costs for capt. chairs and trailering -- any other options? That's around the low quote I've had recently for a 1LT with maybe only the rearview-mirror camera option.
Be sure to read back not only through this thread, but two other topics: "Just got one!!" and "Tactics for getting the best deals."
You'll see many other 1LT deals you can compare yours with.
Other possible incentive includes $500 for any auto shows (unlikely) in your region.
Still, if you haven't yet, if I were you, I'd run that price by at least one other dealer in your area.
Believe me, if they want to offer you a better deal, they'll find any other scrap of incentive they can. :D

Good luck, have fun.

Hi all. As i mentioned in the welcome thread earlier, I brought home our 09 2LT White Traverse this morning. The sticker was $35,895 and was able to get it for $30,500 out the door. It is a FWD, 8 passenger with leather seating. I feel like we got a pretty good deal especially since they wouldnt budge on the LTZ versions or the 2LT's that had more options.

Heads up to watch for "private cash" as they are calling it... Just got brochure that shows $3000 total cash back (beating my $2750 that included my auto show bonus). The 3k included $750 "private cash" offer that supposedly is not available to everyone. They talked up www.gmspringoffers.com and presented a code that, when entered at the site, showed me all my cash back totalling the 3k. You folks considering might want to go and see what it would show without the code. Never got one of these before that I am aware of. Just an fyi...
