ABS wheel sensor, reset error messages?

Kind of a long post, as part of purchasing my used 2020 traverse, I have to get oil changes and tire rotations done at the dealer and they gave me their lifetime powertrain warranty. About 100 miles after my last service I had the service ESC, ABS light come on,etc. it still drove fine.

Took it back to dealer and it was the ABS wheel sensor front drivers side. They wanted $300 to fix. Told them I’d think about it. Drove it home and the tire had been rubbing on the wire due to a broken clip and rubbed through enough to break connection. I suspect they broke the clip when rotating the tires at last service. Decided then and there I’ll get the part and replace myself.

Got the part for $15 and just got done replacing it. The messages and lights were gone. Got less than a mile down the road and they all came back on. Is this a situation where it takes multiple on/off cycles to clear out, or do I need to take it somewhere to clear the codes? I’m aware that there could also be something else wrong as I just went off the error code the dealer said. Open to advice or suggestions. Thanks for taking the time to read.

In my experience no, a bad wheel speed sensor signal resolves right away once corrected - I had a similar issue on a 2012 Regal GS I owned, light started coming on intermittently then permanently; long/short the factory harness ran inside the engine bay near the A/C pulley, and it was not properly secured and contacting the pulley, so over time the harness got worn away and one of the wires from the passenger front WSS eventually was severed. Spliced it back together and the light went out before I hit the end of the driveway.

Sounds like if all you did was replace the clip, there may be some damage to the wiring itself to address.

How many miles on it? Could be a hub bearing issue. Sensor tone ring is internal to the hub.
I've had tone ring issues due to rust yet bearing was still fine in my '16 Equinox. I'm in a salt zone.
You could see it after pulling the hub out, can't fully see the back of the hub due to axle covering the view of it.

That's what I wondered, but if I read the OP right, he said he replaced a WSS, so that being the case, I assumed it was the magnetic style sensor that pokes through the knuckle and corrodes in place in the salt belt.

In case anyone was wondering, I’ve resolved my issue. Turns out I replaced worn wire with incorrect part. Based on description of the part I ordered it mentioned WITH collision UGN. I assumed I had that due to the fact I have the button on my steering wheel to set the gap and also because it will beep at me and flash the red lights on the windshield if I approach the vehicle in front of me too fast.

Looking at the part number off of the wire I replaced, it matches to a new GM part number that is WITHOUT the collision UGN feature. Ordered that one and put it on and all messages and lights disappeared. So in the end it was an easy fix.
