Well, my first oil change on the Traverse is done...Finally..

First the Fram oil filter noted above is the WRONG number. Even though fram lists it on the web-site as compatable it is NOT. The parts stores and Fram have the number incorrect in the database! :angryfire:

The filter removed was a CarQuest #84045
The filter (correct) should have been a Fram PH10590 (this crosses over correctly to both filters)
I installed a Napa Gold (wix) filter #7045

After stopping mid stream and getting a new filter the chainge went easy. The filter was removed/installed from the top side no problem.

All is well now, wish I could have got the ACD filter and been done in 20 mins. :banghead:

Yup, I was in the same situation just last week. Changed the oil filter on my 2012 LT AWD and found that my new Fram Ultra XG10575 would not screw on the filter mount. Wasted a good 20 minutes cursing the position of the oil filter until I decided to check the threads. The old filter spun on immediately, but the Fram would not. I went to the parts store and purchased a Purolator PL 22500 and my problem was solved.

So the Fram 10575 series of filters are NOT compatible with these cars -- don't waste your time. Even though all the Fram guides list the 10575 series as a direct replacement, they will not fit and if you force it hard enough, it could potentially damage the threads on the filter housing.

At least I was not the only one. I really feal that the problem is that Fram incorrectly listed the filter in thier database. It is wrong on the Fram web site as well. The auto parts stores then just blindly follow these listings. When I x.ref'ed the original filter on frams web site I came up with a different filter (PH10590). The 10575 is actually a motorcycle filter according to advance auto parts.

RCPILOT82:

I don't know where you got your info on the PH10590 as being correct. The Fram website only says it's compatible with Chrysler products.

I thought the PH10575 was incorrect at first too. As I stated in an earlier post, I bought a used 2011 LT with a PF-48 installed. I had bought a PH10575 but couldn't seem to thread it on. So I went out and bought a PH10060. It went on, but not real easily. Next time, I was prepared with both; the 10575 went right on. I've since put a 2nd 10575 on.

Looking at Fram's technical info, the 10590 and the 10575 appear identical, except the 10590 is almost an inch longer:

Green Traverse:

I entered my original Car Quest filter number that I removed (#84045) into the competitior cross reference section and it gave me PH10590. That fram filter successfully crosses over to the Car Quest 84045 AND the Napa Gold 7045 that I installed as a result of the 10575 NOT fitting.

http://www.framcatalog.com/Competitor.aspx?b=F&pn=84045&em=True

I strongly belive the FRAM web-site has the wrong part number shown for specifications listed. The 10575 is listed as a motorcycle filter on advance auto web site.

imagine somone really trying hard to screw on the non fitting filter an messing up the threads on the oil filter mount point...

that would real bad...

theyd have to get towed etc..
Unless they try a DIY job...
I believe this whole piece can be removed....

But-- in the meantime-- I avoid this- by using OEM AC Delcos.

I think I'd trust Fram's website on their own products than advance auto's website.

Both have the same threads; per the website, anyway.

Did you verify on the filter itself that it was the said part number? I have seen wrong filters in the wrong box before. Somebody I know got a low end Fram orange can inside of a higher end Tough Guard box. I check the filter itself before I purchase.

If the filter number itself is correct, it might just be a bad machining of the baseplate.

On my installation I did verify because I've had the same problem; people will switch filters in boxes at the retailer to get a premium filter for the price of a cheaper model. I verified the threads several times. The OEM filter spun on/off without much trouble while the Fram would not spin on no matter what I tried. I eventually substituted a Purolator filter and that also was easy to spin on the filter housing.

Bottom line -- there is something very quirky about these Fram filter threads. The specs may be the same as all the other filters, but they certainly were not correct on my application.

An Enclave member HAS this filter on currently. Sounds like a bad batch of baseplates.

Where is the filter that didn't fit? Did you call Fram to report the issue?

Although its certainly possible that Fram's website is wrong, the probabilty is miniscule. This is their bread and butter, after all.

I entered my original Car Quest filter number that I removed [/color] (#84045) into the competitior cross reference section and it gave me PH10590.
I'm thinking someone put in the wrong filter in the first place. It's possible they discovered that the only difference between the 10575, that they couldn't get, and the 84045 that they could get, was the length.
