Well, I reviewed all the old treads on oil filters.
Read a lot about fram filters, but still looking for a couple of filter recommendations.

I only use AC UPF63R filters now. Had issues in the past with Wix filters leaking / seeping at the filter gasket in my fleet not just the Traverse. UPF filters are used on the high performance GM motors. My current fleet takes the same filter.

I don't overthink this, I just grab whatever higher priced filter is on sale with one of the full synthetic oil 5 quart jugs and move along with my day.

I believe changing more frequently is more important than the absolute best performing filter and oil at the time.

I cut that filter open.... and that filter is no joke. Beautifully made.....top to bottom.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is FRAM ( Fram Ruined Another Motor). You could not pay me to run one. I've told the story before, where I swore on my Fathers grave, I would never run a Fram filter. I went to service my daughters BMW, and no one had my usualy Mahle filter in stock, so some pizza faced goober at Advanced Auto talked me into a Fram, saying " The old Fram, sucked, but the new Fram is different. They are the industry leaders right now, especially the " XG" lineup!!" So, in a moment of weakness, I buy one of these POS things, and toss it in. A few weeks go buy, and I just cant take it any longer, so I go find a Mahle to pull the crappy Fram out. And when I do, the Fram has completely come apart like it was assembled with oil soluble glue!!! It took 30 minutes to fish all the lilttle bits and pieces out. I wrote Fram a nasty email and told them is this BMW spins a bearing in the next 6 months, they just bought a engine. They responded by sending me new filter, and a letter stating this is all they are responsible for , to replace.

FRAM CAN GO SUCK IT!!!!!

More XG failures...... they are all over the Inner' Web.

On my 23
PF-63.
4,000 mile changes with Costco full syn is my plan.
‐------
My 2010,
Pf48, regular dino oil 5,000 mile intervals
Then began switch to semi syn by 150,000 then to full syn.
Close to 200,000 with no chain issues.

Found an interesting YouTube. Perhaps the Amsoil EAO17 and Fram Endurance FE10575 are the same? Fram is $13.

Also a cut away of the AC Delco UPF63R:

...and PF63 vs. UPF63R. Last links, I promise.
Good video, but the filter media rated for in each of those filters is 30 micron for the PF63 (Rock Auto) and as he mentions in the video - 25 - 30 microns for the UPF63R filter (filter is not listed in Rock Auto). Basically the exact same filtering capability. The UPF63R is much sturdier but other than that no filtering advantage. I found this on the web:
The UPF63R features a thicker outer shell to provide higher burst pressure resistance during cold temperature conditions and greater fatigue strength.

A quick check at bobistheoilguy.com says "According to ACDelco, the PF63 is 98% efficient 30 microns and 94% efficient at 20 microns." That is outstanding filtration. The only caveat is GM tests the filter with multiple pass's, not single pass. This somewhat lessens their claims of a 98% efficiency. What they are saying is " If you run the oil thru the filter enough times, it gets pretty clean!!"

Question...
Good oil filters are not cheap especially in Canada. Amsoil is not very popular in my neck of woods but a Mobil 1 filter asking price is around $23 CAD that is almost $17 greenbacks. Tax and eco fee are extra.
Both Amsoil and Mobil 1 claim their oil filters can last 15,000 miles (severe service), can we just change the oil and keep the filter on? In the 70s when I took my Monza to a dealership for an oil change, I told them just change the oil and the service writer said if I don't replace the filter it is like taking a bath in dirty water. I replace both in pairs ever since.
But logically speaking, latest technology has made the filters last that long... why waste good money?

I once did a 6.6L Duramax oil filter shootout. The M1 filter was horribly made. They ended up destroying a entire production run of them, due to my photos.

Read about it, here....... Most consumer filters are terrible. The Amsoil and Baldwin filters were the two best as far as construction.

AHHHHHHHH!!! I have a Mobil 1 M1 filter on my Traverse right now. I didn't go into the details of these filters like you did in your Duramax Shootout (Great article by the way). With Mobil 1 being a superior oil I also assumed (yeah, I know) these would be better built oil filters. I hope they corrected their mistakes!! I still prefer Wix XP's, but I could not get one when I changed my oil so I bought the Mobil 1.

A question: The ACDELCO UPF63R filter was designed for the High Feature V6 due to the higher oil pressure for the internal engine design. I have found in more than one place that they are NOT a recommended replacement filter for the 2022 and 2023 Traverse 3.6L. What is the difference? Why did my 2019 3.6L come with a standard PF63 if the UPF63R was designed for the engine in that vehicle - also the dealer replaced the original PF63 with another PF63 on an oil change.

UPF has a higher bypass pressure than the PF.
I've been running them in my '16 3.6 'nox for over 50k miles and 30k miles in my Traverse. Nothings blown up yet nor do I expect to have any issues.

#26 ·
Do you have any idea why the UPF is not recommended for the ‘22 and ‘23 3.6L?
I think because of the higher bypass pressure. Also the Traverse is not considered a high-performance vehicle like the Camaro so no performance reference.
The UPF is not a listed filter for any of my 3.6 motors but I use it. Run one on my 6.2 also.

Everyone needs to keep in mind..... that the "Best Oil Filter" is really a question of what's the "Best Air Filter"...... which is how all the small micron stuff gets into the engine in the first place.

The worst air filter? Hands down, and of the oily gauze filters like K and N.

The Best? I only run the AC Delco or WIX.

Here's some more info to think over..... there is a growing trend for "Max Life" oil filters..... but something has to give. If a filter is designed to last longer, it has to pull out less trash to keep it from plugging up, right? I just emailed Purolator, and they back this simple fact up. The "BOSS" is their expensive long life filter. The "One" is their cheaper filter. Here are the facts..... direct from Mann Hummel, the makers of the Purolator line of filters.

" Hi Bob, here are the Micron and Efficiency numbers you requested.

The PBL22500 BOSS is 99% efficient at 46 microns. Life expectancy is 15,000 miles

PL22500 ONE is 99% efficient at 25 micron. Life expectancy is 10,000 miles.

Thank you for your interest.

Excellent!!!! Typical Marketing B. S. !! They didn’t even mention the 20k filter. You need to read the fine print. I’ll admit, I don’t always but at 68 years old, this old dog is still learning new tricks. Not specifically in this case with oil filters, but in other daily life things. Been screwed a few times by trusting a brand name.

Maybe if I was driving 30k+ a year I'd care, but I've always stuck to the 5k oil change. I like doing the work.
