I just got my Traverse back from the shop. They took the motor out to replace the timing chains. At first there was a faint purring (knocking) sound when stopping. After the day went on the noise was there while idling. I have an appointment to take it in to the dealership on Monday, just wondering what it might be. They said it should be okay to drive since there isn't any lights on. :eyebrow:

OT but can you tell us what is the build date of your Traverse?

My best guess to a vibration or rattling noise at idle is an exhaust heat shield (without actually hearing what you're talking about). If they had to unbolt the exhaust ( if they remvoed the engine, they did) then one of those could have been missed, and you have a slight rattle. I actually notice this noise on a lot of cars at startup.

I hope your new timing chain does a better job for you and your Verse.

jrmcswain - what was determined to be the cause of the vibrations you were feeling? The rest if us with 09s are interested in such details.
