I would like to leave a trailer hitch with ball or something on the vehicle full time. However I don't really like how the bumper looks with the cheap plastic cover missing. Has anyone modified the cover so that it stays on the vehicle with a hitch? I'm thinking some quick dremel work should do the trick.

Also would like to know if anyone has installed any of the tow hitch receivers with LEDs built in. Do they fit? how do they look? Below is an ebay link for one variety, i'm sure there are many different options.

Yes, yes and no.

Bought a spare for trade in time, but easy to modify the cover remove cover, fold cardboard into a square tube and insert in the hich, grease or paint the end and press the cover against it to get a template on the backside of the cover. Bandsaw or Dremel a neat cutout to include the top of the cover (necessary to reattach the cover after the hitch accessory is locked in place and it looks neat. Works with a trailer hitch, lighted hitch cover or bump stop.

Worked on my gen1 and later on my gen2

Insufficient clearance with the cover reattached to install the listed EBay light bracket, I do have one I use with my Silverado, but to install full time on the Traverse, the cover must by removed.

Also, just to be clear, that's not a "receiver with LED's built in." It's a separate LED mount that mounts to a receiver.

That's why the cover has to come off........the hitch cover with the lighted Chevy bowtie will fit and light with only a square hole in the cover......the mount with or without extra lights attached requires the cover to be off. On the Silverado both the bracket with LEDs attached can be mounted on the outside of the receiver with the hitch slid into the inside of the receiver can be used at the same time......never tried both on the Traverse, but should because the lights are mounted below the hitcth.

Thanks for the photos, gives me a much better idea what I'm working with. Also the like the cardboard idea for the template. thx

Buy a spare cover, cut a hole the size of the reciever, cut a round 2" hole on the side of the receiver where the wire harness is located and add a grommet to prevent cutting the harness.

Slide your receiver through the panel and latch the cover. When it's time to use the harness, slide the cannon plug through the 2" hole to make the connection.

Hope this helps.

Got any photos of this?... ALL i seem to find on-line are the brackets mounted to the trailer hitch receiver. This obviously will not work with our covers. I cut out the cover so just the trailer hitch and ball show through. I would like to be able to mount a light bracket right between the ball and the plastic cover on the car. My other thought is to use some sort of hitch extension so that I have a full size receiver sticking through the plastic cover. Thoughts?

Another issue if anyone has any ideas.... Going to need to plug into the car's trailer wiring for the lights, however the cover for the wiring harness hits the plastic cover when its in the open position, therefore if anything is plugged in to the factory wiring harness the cover will not fit back over flap that sticks out. I'm sure i'm not explaining this well, but if anyone understands and has ideas i'm all ears.
