Tow Package - Battery Isolator?

Does anyone know if the Traverse with factory V92 tow package has a battery isolator installed? I'll be pulling a travel trailer this summer and I'm weighing my options. If there isn't one, I'm still hesitant to add one since it would be adding a voltage drop between the alternator and battery and may have an effect on warranty due to modifying the charging system. I could also simply be diligent in unhooking each time we stop, but Murphy's Law will probably dictate a specific scenario where I'll forget.

Anyway, does anyone know about a possible factory isolator or have any thoughts on the subject?

There is NO battery isolation between the Traverse and the Trailer. As soon as I plug in my trailer, it starts to draw from the Traverse battery. You can simply disconnect at the campground when you get there. I always do this, even if we are only staying for one night, because I never have the 120V shore power plugged in at the same time that my Traverse is plugged in.

Your other option is to pull the TRLR PWR fuse in the under hood fuse block; personally, I'd just unplug the trailer.

Some folks on this forum have claimed that the aux power to their trailer hitch is "switched" (i.e., it will turn off when the car is turned off), I know that mine is not. Per the 2011 LT wiring diagrams and my personal experience, even with the Traverse turned off, the battery will still be feeding the trailer. Note that power to your brake controller is also not switched. It's fed from the TRLR BRK fuse. Both of these fuses come right off the battery bus.

I was one of those folks, but that was because I didn't realize that my fuse was blown. I just thought that because the ignition was off, that there was no power. By the way, if you need to buy a new fuse, go to Wal-Mart...$5.00 for a pack of 5. The dealer wanted $13 for 1.

The one thing I haven't checked yet, you know how the Traverse will turn off lights or power drawing stuff after 20 minutes, I'm wondering if that also includes the trailer plug. So if you trailer is drawing from the tow vehicle battery, after 20 minutes the battery saver will cut off the power?? I tested that theory yet.

I use my truck to pull a 33ft trailer, but I never have had a hot connection to any trailer I’ve owned because it is hard on the vehicle alternator , regardless of the rated output of the alternator and especially if you have a dual battery system. I use a generator to charge the trailer batteries or a solar panel set up when dry camping. You vehicle’s alternator will thank you.
