The text entry area "jumps up" to the first line - if too many lines are entered

Dear Admin,

The text entry area "jumps up" show the first line - if too many lines are entered. Therefore, iIt is difficult to get cursor back down and continue because the screen jumps up again after every keystroke.

Note, I have IE 8.0 that operates fine on other Forums etc. It acted up after line 9 in this example.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I understand what you mean.
Are you saying if you enter a 9 line reply
that the text entry field messes up on your browser?
This is line 4
This is line 5
This is line 6
This is line 7
This is line 8
This is line 9
This is line 10
I'm not able to duplicate your issue in either Firefox or IE.
Can you elaborate?

Re: The text entry area "jumps up" to the first line - if too many lines are entered

Dear Admin,

My previous post in this topic had 15-total lines when "posted". However, there were many more lines than that - when entering it in this "text entry box". For example, the last character of each row of numbers was actually by itself in a new line, then I hit enter - and started the next line.

You might have to copy/paste my previous example or just keep entering full lines, (that go to the far right edge and wrap) until the issue occurrs.

My screen resolution is also 1024 x 768, if that makes any differance to the formating of a given web page.

I have had this issue every time with a long post, but will try to duplicate it again with Google Chrome.

Thanks for the time to investigate in any case.

Again, no issues here. Anyone else having a problem? I have close to 15,000 members between all four of my Lambda forums and you're the first one to mention this problem...?

This has happened to me multiple times, on all the Lambda forums....sometimes it works, sometimes it does the jump thing, it's intermittent. It's real annoying, but I haven't mentioned it before because I thought it was something with my personal set up.

I still can't even picture the issue. Are you entering extremely long individual sentences or just long replies, longer than 9 lines? Were you also using IE8?

Re: The text entry area "jumps up" to the first line - if too many lines are entered

Admin,

Again thanks for your patience, but it is really annoying.

These are not extemely long sentences, just regular text entry paragraphs that eventually force the top line to scroll off the top of entry box - and then the "jumping back up a few lines" occurrs after entering a few lines more or so.

I noticed that it does not always go back to the very top line, but the bottom line displayed may be just a few lines above where the last line is actually located. You can cursor down to the last line of text, but then again after one keystroke - it jumps back to wherever it wants in an inconsistent manner.

Some members may have thought that the text entry was simply limited, and stopped entering text without complaints.

Since you are having a hard time duplicating this on your machine, would it be possible for me to show you what happens on my computer via Remote Desktop or Log Me In?

Thanks again,

Re: The text entry area "jumps up" to the first line - if too many lines are entered

Would a screenshot show the issue? Does the text go outside the text entry box and spill over to other parts of the page? Also, is this on the quick reply box at the bottom, or do you hit the reply button and go to the main reply page? I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to do about this. I mean, the code is standard HTML from what I can tell. It almost sounds like an IE8 bug. Have you had this issue on any other sites? are you on any of my other lambda forums? If so, does it happen there too?

Re: The text entry area "jumps up" to the first line - if too many lines are ent

Admin,

There is no similar problem with Google Chrome, so I'm suspecting IE 8 or at least it - in concert with Windows XP and whatever updates it has.

I am updating XP, again, and will let you know if it ever quits within IE 8.

And, I may just use more Chrome.

Thanks,

This happens to me too, and is very annoying! Best way I can describe it is once my post gets too long, I can no longer see what I am typing because after every key stroke it automatically jumps back to the top. Ive never had this issue on any other forum.

Ties - this is the best description I've seen yet on the issue, so thanks. I need a few more details to hopefully figure out a way around the issue. Are you also using IE8? what OS (xp, vista, win7, OSX, etc)? Is this on the "quick reply" box at the bottom of the thread, or the main Post Reply page?

Using IE8, OS Vista. Happens when I click on reply or quote at the bottom of the post. It is weird because your curser is at the bottom of the page and you are typing but it keeps jumping you to the top of the page! Again only happens when you type a long post of 90% of the time not an issue.

No sorry still doing it :banghead: I typed a box full of "A's" until the box was full and when I went to to "B's" it would jump back up to the "A" section and back to the "B" section when I would type :happy:

I'm sorry to do this to you, but can you try it ONE more time? I think you may have beat me. I claimed to have uploaded the change, but when I checked, it hadn't gone, so NOW I've uploaded it. Hit reply and try it one more time...

Sorry, no luck. Thanks for trying! The other lambda forums are not having this issue?

Re: The text entry area "jumps up" to the first line - if too many lines are entered

That didn't fix it? Hmmm. I think you may have a cached version of the stylesheet. Do this for me. In another window, open this link - http://www.traverseforum.com/Themes/dark-blue/style.css

Scroll or search for "editor". Once there, you should see either the old code:

width: 96%;

or new code:

/* width: 96%; */
width: 700px;
min-width: 96%;
max-width: 96%;

If you get the old code, refresh your browser window and see if it changes. If you DID have the old code (the single line), then go back to the forum, reload the erply page again (after you refreshed your cache in the other window) and try another test. This is all just speeding up the process of refreshing the cached style.css page that happens periodically anyway. I want to make SURE you're using the new version and it's not working before I continue...

re: other forums. They all use the same code and this is a universal IE8 bug that affects any site using a percentage width attribute on a textarea, but so far nobody has complained on my other forums.

I got the new code, /* width: 96%; */. Just tried it again.... Still not working :confused: Maybe someone else can try it when they see this post.
