IMO, the sunroof design for the Premier is cheap. The cost of these SUV's are high as it is...but recently during a wind gust while the roof was open and when the sun came out, my wife closed the shade and during that wind gust the shade snapped open, the PLASTIC bar or clatch snapped. GM used a plastic bar to hold the shade closed. You can't buy the 3.00 item unless you buy the assembly for 150.00 So now I have to come up with a way to create a new piece out of metal or aluminum or carbon fiber or something. Not covered under warranty, Thinking of using a screen door assembly bar and custom fitting. When the shade is open you can't see the hold down anyway...

Any ideas?

My Sunroof is in for the third time for the same repair. MY SUNROOF bar has glue on it and it doesn't look like they replaced it ; instead they glued it back on. This time I'm holding on to the broken bar and it wont be used again. My 2018 Traverse is giving me a fit with reoccurring repairs. I think I bought a $57,000 Lemon!

Well I fixed it 20x better than factory. I went to Lowes and bought a deadbolt strike. It came with 2 face plates, top and bottom. Each with the exact hole pattern as the sunroof part. I took it with me to Lowes... I used the bottom yellow metal one. I used the side with the large holes and used two small washers, one small and one smaller for overlap to cover the large hole in the strike and for the screws, and to make sure they were skinny so the sunroof screw could be re-used to tighten again. I used the sunroof part and measured it on the strike side with the big holes, inked a line and used my hacksaw to cut to fit and filed it smooth. Used the washers and re-used the OEM screws and it works...

There are 2 screws holding the sunroof part and easy access once the sunroof is fully opened.

Part number 0216034 from Gate House. Cost $5.00 or less.

Sooner or later, that cheap plastic will break.

Good luck

Had the same thing happen to my '19 Premier the other day on a 90+ degree day. Dealer replaced under warranty. Evidently they had to replace the entire shade assembly just to fix the 10cents latch. Sometimes I wonder who designs this stuff....very sad. It's a piece of plastic that is getting direct heat thru the sunroof glass. I'm 100% sure it will snap again. I just hope it does while still under warranty.

The plastic 'receiver' piece on our rear shade broke a couple weeks ago. The whole piece pulled away from the 2 plastic rivets. I can't believe how flimsy that plastic is. I could snap it in half with 2 fingers. Luckily I already had an upcoming oil change appt, but of course they had to order the part so I need to bring it back in. I remember looking at these shades before we bought it and thinking how cheap they felt for a 40-50k vehicle. I have no doubt it will break again. The doorstrike faceplate mentioned above sounds like an interesting option.

Oh I'm sure it will break again... Well, I better make one for the rear sun shade and it ready. Or, maybe, wrap clear 100 per mile shipping tape around the plastic strike/receiver to give it more strength...

Kinda sad you'd have to resort to doing this... I know they had to do something different since they can't use a normal panel shade with the panoramic glass right there but it could have been a little more substantial.

Honestly, I hate to add more power features but I feel like most vehicles with panoramic sunroofs have power shades, and for the price I feel like that's not an unreasonable request.

I agree cintocrunch. $150.00 for the assembly vs the singular part is ass. After I saw the part, no wonder it broke. Even if they replaced it - it will break again. I had a 16 Impala Premier and the sunroof shade was electric. That was a great sunroof. Later did I learn that is standard on the High Country... Still, the price for these kind of goes without saying...

So a $50k Premier doesn't get it but a $55k HC does? It's not like we are talking about it as an option package on the LS or something... IDK, maybe I'm getting cranky as I get older.

It makes me cranky... it's the same electric sunroof as the Impala in the HC. I don't make the options/RPO's, just like there is only color interior for HC... In the big scheme of things, 5K isn't much but I didn't want the interior color....

In my '20 HC both the shades are spring loaded snap backs not power or manual sliding.
I don't like the spring loaded shades either. I like the manual ones in my Tahoe and Equinox, you can just crack the shade partially to keep sun out and use the tilt to vent heat when parked in the sun.

Glass broke? Not sure if glass is covered under the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty but comprehensive Insurance will.
