We have a 2010 Traverse AWD LT1...85K miles. We were driving this morning to take my daughter to a doctors appointment when the vehicle just went "nuts". I was at a stop sign and tried to accelerate....the vehicle didn't want to go forward. Had to get it to over 3000 RPM to go. Vehicle didn't sound right either. Noticed that the traction control, stabilization, and park assist were disengaged. I stopped, put the vehicle in park, and then back into drive....didn't help. I turned the vehicle off and turned it back on....still didn't help.

On top of this, the AC stopped blowing air through the dash vents two days ago...still blows on floor and the rear vents work.

We have to drive on the interstate to get anywhere...I'm scared to let my family get on the road with this vehicle now. This "powering down" feature is extremely dangerous! Someone is going to get hurt. I tried to get to a parking lot to investigate further....traffic had to stop to let me across. It's like driving a golf cart with a drained battery.

One other thing....our Traverse also makes a "moaning" sound when you have to turn it sharply....I've seen others mention that here.

Maybe disconnect the battery for 10 minutes. Bad alternator? It's 97 degrees outside here right now, I suspect lots of electrical failures going on in this weather (battery, alternator, starter, etc.).

seen very few cases of bad alternator/starter on the lambdas...

GeauxTigers,

I am truly sorry to hear of the vehicle concerns you are experiencing in your 2010 Traverse. Have you gotten this inspected at a certified GM dealership? If not, I'd be more than happy to schedule an appointment and monitor the diagnosis on your behalf. Feel free to send me a PM and reference this thread in regards to your concern.

Of course I haven't. The GM certified dealer would charge an arm and a leg just to look at it, and after reading this thread, I have no doubt that the diagnosis would be incorrect.

Look...I don't mind normal wear and tear, but this seems to be a very common issue brought about by either poor engineering, or shoddy parts. For so many folks to have the exact fatal malfunction, there has to be a bigger issue. This is a lot bigger than a broke windshield wiper or radio knob...someone is going to get hurt, or worse, due to this issue. It's the equivalent of a ticking time bomb...I just pray no one else is on a busy highway when their traverse decides to "power down".

I'm also sure GM loves all the income from the built in maintenance.

So, to answer your question and robot like sympathy,...no.

One other thing....I thought I might look into trading the chevy for a better built Honda. Guess what? Even though I supposedly got a "great deal" on our traverse, we owe about $6K more than it's worth on trade. Imagine that....

2011 Chevy Traverse LS with 39,434 miles, I have had this issue WITHOUT loss of power intermittently since about 20,000 miles. This was not a deal breaker as the problem would usually correct itself after turning off the vehicle and turning it back on... But now after having this issue daily for the past 2 weeks my cruise control does not work at all, even if the vehicle is showing no error with the Stabilitrac/TC. I CANNOT afford to go to a dealership for them to jerk me around (the exact reason I do all my own maintenance). Since i purchased this vehicle brand new with only 5 miles on it, i have not been impressed which is sad as i am a hardcore GM owner, especially since the track record of other vehicles ive owned leaving me stranded several times (FORDS) is not that great. Chevys have always worked when i needed them to.

and since this seems to be an ongoing (undiagnosable) issue that i cannot easily fix myself i will soon be trading in this vehicle for another brand, probably a Toyota, since i own a 98 Chevy prizm LSI AKA a 98 Toyota Corolla with 265,000 miles as well that has had very few issues since i got it with about 65,000 miles.(high pressure power steering hose, starter, and battery that were all repaired very cheaply by myself). I would say that kind of dependability is easily worth my hard earned money.

Sorry to say but GM has lost a loyal customer with this nonsense. (I will hold on to my 78 Cheyenne as thats my baby, although shes a thirsty one)

I am going to clean out the sensors and throttle body tomorrow after work to see if the problem goes away, I will keep you guys posted on what i find. :-\

Hello n0r4d,

I would be happy to assist you with this issue! I see that you would prefer to not visit the dealership; however, the dealerships are our eyes and ears on the field, and I would like to call your dealership to explore options for you. Although I cannot guarantee cost assistance, each situation is treated on a case by case basis. We do appreciate your loyalty to GM for so long, and we want to do what we can to assist. If you would like to private message me your name, address, phone number, VIN, vehicle mileage, and name of preferred dealership, I can research further for you. Thank you!

We have a 2010 Chevy Traverse with 55,000 miles. Has been a good car. Had a very similar issue to others on this board yesterday. We were driving on a busy street, full family inside, and then the car almost shut down. Went crazy as noted by someone else is accurate! We got the traction control off message, service stabiltrac, and then the engine lamps. Car immediately decelerated and it felt as though the transmission had disengaged. Could not accelerate, had a hard time steering, and even the brakes were not functioning right. It was a shocking experience and fortunately we could get into the right hand lane out of fast traffic and make it into a parking lot. My immediate thought was to be thankful this did not happen on the freeway! I can sympathize with those that did experience this on the freeway as it was unlike any other experience I have been through.

I was certain that something serious had gone wrong with the transmission, drive shaft, etc. After a quick search on the Web, I learned that this issue was somewhat common and appears to be due to a defective sensor or throttle body. I am now unsure how to proceed. I would like to avoid some of the horror stories people have told on trip after trip after trip to a dealer that gives you the run around. I am also concerned about the cost. With that said, I am hesitant to take it to an independent service shop. Does anyone have recommendations on how to proceed? Also, can anyone comment on whether this issue will ever fully go away or is it a recurring problem that will always be with us? I am concerned about having this same event occur on the freeway with my wife and kids in the car!

Cr@p !
Is this happening to 2010 models only ?

Hello Texas Traverse Owner,

I am sorry to hear about this experience! I am happy though that everyone in the vehicle is safe. I would like to assist in a resolution and speak with your dealership regarding the issue. We do encourage our customers to visit a local GM dealership as they are our eyes and ears on the field. If you could send a private message with your name, address, phone number, VIN, vehicle mileage, and name of preferred dealership, I can schedule an appointment for you and hopefully find a resolution quickly for you!

there is actually quite a number of things that can cause the vehicle to go into limp mode-- and or display the stabilitrack and related messages.

Yesterday my husband changed the air filter on our 2011 traverse and this morning the service stabilitrack, traction control lights came on. Is this a coincidence or could there be wires in that area that were nocked loose? Any help would be appreciated!! All other systems fine No loss of power.
Thank you!

I plugged back in.
and restarted. it was now OK.

Uuggghhhh-yet another issue with our 2011 Traverse LT AWD at 55K miles!!! We're having some of the worst weather in a long time with snow and ice and our Traction Control/service Stabilitrak/restrict engine power messages came on along with a clunking sound at low speed. Of course it also happened on a Saturday afternoon after the dealers are all closed!!! Really beginning to regret this vehicle purchase. The whole reason we bought it and paid for the AWD is for the type of weather we are currently dealing with. I've loved Chevy my whole life but this is getting old.

Adding myself to the list of "Me Toos"

We have a 2010 Chevy Traverse. Overall been a big fan of this car - but having a repeat occurance of the Traction Control issues documented here.

The first time happened about a year ago, just days away from our warranty expiring. Was driving in dry weather and it just occured. It was covered - not sure what they repaired at the time but I'm about to look at our records and see.

Just happned again today. Was in the middle of a snow storm, going extra slow on a major highway as 6 inches fell around us. Was pretty scary for my wife who was driving at the time to deal with that and the reduced power.

Going to call the dealer tomorrow to see what can be done. It's frustrating to have this issue happen again so recently, but now we'll likely be out of pocket on the repair. :angryfire:

Adding my comments to this thread also:
Just had our 2011 Traverse in the shop Friday getting a new throttle body for the same issue. The infamous "Service Stabilitrak", "Traction Control Off", "Reduced Engine Power" had been flashing on the DIC on 6 different occasions but luckily for us it was when we had cold, snowy weather so we weren't driving fast at the time.

It seems ridiculous that I should have to replace a throttle body that is less than 4 years old on a car with only 57756 miles - but especially when the total invoice came to $550??!! Our GM dealership (Everett Chevrolet) provided great customer service and gave us a loaner at no charge so no complaints there but the repair costs should be covered by a GM recall in my opinion. For those wondering the codes were P0121 and P0221.

They also followed up on another complaint we had concerning a clunking noise at low speeds from the passenger front. They determined that the front struts were leaking onto the bearing plates and strut mounts/stabilizer links. Total estimate for that repair? $1400. I declined until I can "save up" for another large repair bill. We have loved our Traverse when it works right but I'm ready to bail on this thing at this point...

2010 in the shop with th "Service Stabilitrak", "Traction Control Off", "Reduced Engine Power" too! Replacing the throttle body at 66,500 miles. Also an issue with the coil is that's being replaced. Seriously love my Traverse but two shop visits in 4 months is nuts! The last trip was to replace the evaporator and the steering wheel noise.

Had a near death experience because of the "Service Stabilitrak/Reduced Engine Power" last night. I have a 2011 Traverse and with no warning the Service Stabilitrak appeared on my dash and I lost power. Going from 45mph to under 20mph in a matter of seconds in heavy traffic. With all the posting on the various blogs of countless ppl having this experiencing this and no recall. I am extremely disappointed with Chevy/GM, what is it going to take a death in order for them to get in front of the problem and alert the public and do the right thing and recall the part???
