Ran across an article describing current methodology for gaining access and stealing vehicles. Just like scammers can clone your credit card info with a close pass to your wallet or handbag, seems a new device for amplifying signals can clone your keyfob at a distance......can even copy it while still stored inside your home. Article suggest wrapping it in aluminum foil or using a Faraday shield like those built in many newer wallets.

Many vendors commercially available for about $20/ea. locally or you can go cheap with China.....purchased 6 for all my fobs, for under $15 including shipping.

I saw a story about this on the news several months ago - frightening!

One of my coworkers son had his trunk broken into (laptop computers stolen). No signs of forced entry. Security video showed the thief walk up and the trunk popped open just before took the contents. They suspected he cloned his fob.

I worry about break-ins to the vehicle interior when parked in a hotel/motel lot with out of State plates and when stored overnight on the driveway......a great target for thieves.
