The temperature gauge on my 2014 Traverse LS ranges from 160 to 260, with the usual operating temperature being right in the middle at 210. Once every few days, as I am driving around town, the temperature gauge will drop all the way down to 160, the heater will not get as hot (nor will the AC will not work) and the engine fan kicks on at full speed. I shut the car off and the fan runs about 10-20 seconds longer, then shuts off. I restart the car about 20 seconds afterr that, engine gauge reads as normal. The coolant level is where it should be, and the right mix ratio for the weather here.

I should add that I live in Alaska so it is not abnormally hot here, and this has been occurring for over a year even when it gets to -45 fahrenheit outside in January. What may be causing this and how do I fix it? Is it simply a problem with my gauge?
