Like a week ago i had issues with it overheating, now im having issues with the power steering.

I took a left turn onto a road, and smoke started to pour out the bottom
I pulled over with the power steering not working well.
I checked and the fluid was leaking out from the right side by the pump or one of the lines.
I was able to drive it home, but now i am trying to fix the leak and issues with the power steering
so today i pulled off the wheel well liner, just to see it still gave me no access to the power steering system.

So my question is how the **** do i figure out what is going on? is it possible i blew the rack and pinion (praying i didnt)

Is there any diagrams someone can send?

I’ve had to change my power steering pump and lines a few times on my 2013. The only way you can access it is by getting it on a lift and going from the bottom.

If you take it to a shop, it is a lot of labor. I really like the drive and suspension on this vehicle, but anything that you work on (power steering lines, pump, alternator, etc) is crammed in there and really hard to get at. On the other hand, if you have the time and patience, you can save a ton of money by doing the labor yourself.

Good luck. Be sure to bleed that old fluid out real well to protect that new pump.
Anyone add an inline filter to see if it helps the pumps last longer?

I have a 2019 with the electric steering, so no more pumps (yay). Yet I bet it will be plenty expensive to fix when the time comes (hopefully never).

How many quarts of power steering fluid do you think I will need to flush out the old fluid?
I think my steering fluid has ATF for some reason, even though the owners manual calls for normal fluid.
this led me to originally think I blew my trans
Thank you for the response

Not sure on amount. The last one I replaced was on a VW Passat. I think I used 3L for that one. I'm also not positive on the procedure for the Traverse. For the Passat I took the return hose off the rack and turned lock to lock with the car off. I caught the old fluid in a bucket and kept filling my pump reservoir with new fluid until I got clean fresh fluid from the rack.

Sometime around '12 or so they switched from P/S fluid to Dex 6 from the factory. There was a TSB that specified if the pump and rack get replaced on an older model year to refill with Dex 6 and slap a sticker on the resevoir.
