Leaky roof rack on 2010 Traverse

I am so frustrated! I have had nothing but problems with my 2010 traverse. My latest problem is the roof rack on the driver side is leaking. I took into the dealer today & paid $39.99 for them to tell me it is going to cost $504 to fix and that it was not covered by the "bumper to bumper" extended warranty I purchased directly from the dealership's owner who told me it would cover everything except general maintenance. This is just one of the issues I have had with this vehicle...the heat went out a week and a half ago, the water pump in June & 3 steering gears (1 in 2011' 1 in 2012 & 1 in 2013), not to mention the antilock bricks locking up completely in the middle of a busy highway. There are many other minor repairs too. I feel like I bought a lemon! I am terrified of what is going to happen when the extended warranty runs out. I'm seriously thinking of dumping it & getting something else that GM doesn't make!

It might cost 500.00$ but maybe you can fix it for $5 with some sealer. I think there are only three screws holding it on. Take it off to see where it could be leaking.
definitely fix it yourself.
Take the rack off...
and loo around up there.

sorry to hear youve had issues with your 2010.
Thank you for the responses. My husband is going to try to fix it this weekend. Unfortunately, it has poured all day today & it is leaking bad! I hope I can get it fixed. Still seriously thinking of dumping the car because I am terrrified of what is going to go wrong next!
does he have the security bit to remove the rails and stuff?

I understand how you feel. I went through the same thing with a 2010 Malibu I bought new. By the 3yr/36000 mark it had been in for numerous warranty part replacements. I had bought an extended warranty from the dealer which made the B2B good for 7yr/75000 miles with a $100 detuctable after the 3/36 had ran out. I decided to ditch it and I got credit back for the ext warranty I never used. I traded it in for our new Traverse. I dont blame you for wanting to jump the GM ship. I'm not sure if I can be called a GM loyalist or a dumbass for buying another one. Time will tell.
Well, my husband's fix didn't work. Now, I don't know what I am going to do! A four year old car shouldn't have this many issues!
Does your Traverse have a sunroof? There is a known problem of them leaking if the drain is plugged.

How do you like that? We had the same leaky roof problem (driver's side) on our 2010 Traverse. It had leaked so much it stained the headliner. The total cost to fix it was stated as $2,200-$2,300. We got the same response - the warranty didn't cover it. So, the dealership gave us the best they could offer, we pay ~$500 to get it fixed, including a new headliner. We got it fixed. Someone else had to shoulder the cost above $500. I can't believe how many recalls are going on now in the auto industry, all models.
Hi Gregorium,
I am trying to work with GM right now to get this covered. I have had so many major issues with this vehicle & it is sad because I love my Traverse otherwise. So far, only a small corner of the headliner is stained. I don't have a sunroof so the only place it could be leaking from is the roof rack. Hopefully, GM will do the right thing & try to make it right since I have had so many issues with this vehicle since I bought it new!
Well, this ended up not being leaky roof racks as the dealer originally told me. After getting GM involved & the dealership owner, the dealer agreed to try to fix the problem for free. After two days they discovered it was my windshield leaking and a problem with a seam in the body. They fixed it at no charge & gave me a rental car to drive for the two days. I am very happy. The only thing is I will have to take their word for it being fixed since we are due for snow tonight & may not see rain until next spring. I'm glad this is resolved but only hope nothing else happens since the extended warranty runs out in 4,000 miles!
Well it is documented with GM and I think the dealer will stand behind there work. If your that worried about it go through the car wash a couple of times. ?

Time to get the garden hose out and start soaking the area on the windshield. I do not think I would wait until next year to make sure it is fixed. But I am glad to hear they did the work at no cost to you.

Did you get this issue resolved? You never updated with a final result as to their repair work….. am interested in exactly where the seam issue was…..
The OP hasn't been back in over 7-1/2 years. I suspect he won't respond.
