Wow this is amazing!!!!

Nobody tell this vendor that right now REI is doing 20% off all of the same products... or that any GM accessories site always does 20% off on many of the same accessories.

Not thrilled with Thule. I bought a Thule bike rack around 2006. Around 2018, I stripped the pinch bolt nut. It's not really a nut (i.e., six-sided, threaded), its a square chunk of metal (so it can't spin inside the drawbar) that's threaded. Called them to get a new one and they had no clue what I was even talking about. They finally figured out what I wanted (or so they said) and sent me a new one. BUT it wasn't the same as the old one., it was an actual nut. It didn't fit the internals of my rack, it spun. They said that's all they had. I had to go with a Curt pinch weld device.

Dang that stinks! The 21 CF roof boxes I was looking at were the Thule Force XT XXL and Yakima Skybox 21, both 21 CF. Basically all of the reviews I found seemed to point to the Thule dual opening hinge being a much better and more reliable design, the Yakima latch system being a little better in that there is zero stress on the key if you have pressure on the latches when you close it, and pretty much the rest being which shape and style you like better.

I went Thule for the hopefully better hinge and I like that the shape is more boxy for rectangular luggage which is what I will use it for.
Very happy with our Thule Force. Has come in handy for college dorm move in/out seasons. Once dialed in the mounting/unmounting is easy and it's light enough for one to store away when not in use (though somewhat cumbersome to move)
