Good day all,

I decided to write here to see if anyone else has this issue and if anyone has found a fix. I have been dealing with a first bumper cover fit and finish issue from day one. It’s right under the driver side headlight. The bracket that holds the cover down is not strong enough to continuous hold the cover in place. This causes the paint to start to wear off since the cover moves back and forth at the corner of the headlight.

I have had it to the dealer at least 4 times now for about a total of 60 days at their shops. The last time they told me they would do nothing else and “other” Travers’s have this so it’s just how it is.

I don’t really like that nor do I like that this keeps happening and the paint has already rubbed off once (dealer fixed it).

With a light push it will pop back into place and be seamless.

Interesting... What year is your Traverse?

I have a few thoughts about what I might do.

I would remove the screws in that hold that side of the bumper cover in place and pull out that side of the cover. Most bumper covers hold in place at the top with a tabs that fit into slots on the bumper cover.

I would verify the condition of the closest set of tabs on that corner to ensure that they are still in good condition.

Then I would look at the slot in which the tabs fit, to verify their condition.

If a tab or related slot is are not properly locking into each other, this would cause the cover to pop-out slightly in that area.

The bracket with the tabs below the headlight is easy to remove and replace, only a few screws. The slots are part of the bumper cover and are hard to fix without replacing the bumper cover.

Odds are that a tab was broken during initial installation. This would explain why it is not holding correctly.

If you are concerned about rubbing parts removing paint, purchase 3M transparent automotive tape and apply it in any areas where painted parts rub.

I have removed and installed bumpers covers are numerous makes and models of vehicles and they are all basically the same.

What year is your Traverse.
I have a 2019 and when detailing it last week I noticed a "fit/finish" concern that might be in the same place, after seeing your post - I will be going back and taking a closer look?

2018 made in August of 2017.

BTW, When I mentioned to pull-out the one side of the bumper cover, it was NOT meant for you to fix it yourself. It was to take some pictures of anything broken and bring it to their attention.

It is the dealer's responsibility to repair this. Other Traverse ARE NOT like that. That is not an acceptable excuse by the dealer.

You should escalate this within the dealership and if they still don't fix this for you, try Chevrolet Customer assistance here: https://www.chevrolet.com/contact/call-us

If that doesn't work, go to your local BBB.

I was about to seek counsel on it since they have had my car so much and for a repeat issue.

I agree they need to fix it. The last time they said “others are the same” and wouldn’t do anything. I will be contacting their GM soon as well.

Love the car really hate having to pop in a bumper over and over.

Was washing and detailing our 19LT yesterday, I discovered the exact issue near the passenger side headlight.
I will be mentioning this to my dealer when I go in for my free oil change this fall. (ours is Cajun Red, and the resulting paint scuff , has left a small but very visible black-colored rub spot)

I have to wonder if others have noticed this issue and approached their dealer ..?

My dealer painted the spot and “fixed” it 3 times. They now say it’s a “fit and finish” of the car....

Interesting dealer BS response.
I'll bet we both have a missing or damaged "securing clip" originating from the assembly process

Our (old) 2018 did this too, unfortunately

I just popped it back in every time I noticed it. I wasn't sure if it was an issue with the car itself, OR if the wife hit something with the car and caused it

The car is gone now, replaced with a 2020
