so far Ive gassed up about 8 times.
Ive kept track of my numbers. I just did a trip from LA to San Francisco and back. About 900 miles.
my 2010 now has about 3000 miles.
But- It appears that the DIC fuel used and MPG is fairly accurate- when compared to what I physically pump in and then hand calculate the MPG.
What I now do- is when the pump stops on its own- thats where I stop filling.
So it seems the error in how much is pumped- is in the accuracy of the auto shut off mechanism.
There is 1 entry below - marked with the ?????- here there was a big diff in what was used vs what was pumped in..... 2 GAL diff... im tempted to say that the pump was rigged- obviously to their advantage- since all others are within .5 gal of each other.

the big increase in mileage is due to the all highway trip- to and from LA-SF (4 adults and some luggage- speeds at 67-72)- and Grapevine going north.
The 18 MPG is my everyday commute to and from work in rush hour traffic...

So- for now- Id say the DIC is pretty accurate- and like mentioned- the error being the fuel cutoff at the pump used.

DIC GAL used GAL PUMPED DIC MPG Hand calc MPG
18.7 19.5 18.7 18
18.5 18.8 18.3 18
15.8 15.8 18.5 18.6
16.4 18.6 18.9 16.7 ??????
2.3 2.2 19.4 20.9
12.8 13.3 22.8 22.1
10.3 10.4 23.1 22.9
17 .0 16.6 23.2 23.8

rbarrios,

Yep, the engine managment/monitoring are good and getting better.

I believe that nowdays, as opposed to fuel flow sensors with carbs, the computer counts injector pulses, (which are fixed flows due the relatively-constant supply pressure and the injector orifice) and simply does the math against the distance traveled.

However, even with injectors and the DIC , our '94 Caddy got kinda "excited" at speeds about 90 and tended to show better and better mpg - the faster the car went (which, is sorta against most laws of physics, [unless the car is falling from a cargo plane - and then until it reaches terminal velocity]).

Regards,
