Yep, not kidding. I have an 2009 AWD LTZ and after going around a corner I heard a loud thump about halfway into the turn. Apparently the rear axle broke at the joint and was no longer providing power to the rear axle. The only reason I knew this is I heard a loud clicking sound while driving The service staff replaced the axle under warranty and the whole process was good however they couldn't tell me why it broke, but had mentioned that they had never seen this before.

Also note to service staff: after you are finished with the vehicle it would be nice if you wiped the crud off of my leather wrapped steering wheel.

are you in the rust belt?

Wonder if it was a bad weld- and in a year- corroded that weld point?

Yes I am however it was a very clean break. You wouldn't even know that the part was almost a year old. So hard to say at this point. My running theory is interlock problem in the rear differential causing a major mismatch in tire rotation around the corner.
