Wondering how long the brakes last on these things. I have a 2009 AWD.

My 2009 LTZ (purchased 4/09) has 27000 on it, and getting a brake squeal in the L front. Drove to dealer and he said it's okay, don't need to change pads yet. Will keep monitoring.

On the acadia forum- more older lambdas there-- and I think it ranges from 30K to 60K.
But I really hope to get 60-70K.
(Im basing this on my 03 Trailblazer- getting 77,000 on the front pads- and at 154,000- I still have factory rear pads).
My Traverse is driven in the same conditions that the Trailblazer was--- the only difference is the Traverse is FWD--- so I suspect that my diminish pad life a bit.

oh wait--- or is it the tires that wear out faster on FWD?

Its either the brakes or tires that tend to wear out faster on FWD. Maybe its the tires.

Because the front drive is pulling the vehicle and the majority of the weight of the vehicle, the tires will wear out quicker on the front end. They also do all the steering and side to side movement when turning the steering wheel. Because of the way brake systems are designed, the front brakes will also wear out quicker than the rears.

I have done the front brakes on my truck three times, and am still running the factory pads on the rear. The truck is rear wheel drive with 130000 miles!

In this type of vehicle, it is possible that the front brakes may wear out faster than the rear ones.

I'm guessing, but if you are not a hard brake pusher I'd expect the brakes to last well over 50,000 miles if not much longer.

Just got my Traverse back from the dealer (09/LS/FWD/27,000 miles) to have the front rotors replaced and the rear rotors resurfaced, all covered under warranty. The service writer said the pads both in front and rear looked good and would probably last 50-60,000 miles. Unfortunately GM does not put enough nickel in their rotors for people like me here in Buffalo, NY whose cars are subjected to a lot of road salt in the winter time. This causes rust and rotor warping. The brakes feel a little squishy now. Anyone else have the same feeling?

no squishy brakes here--- and no brake work either--- Im really expecting mine to last 50-70,000

I don't have brake pad issues yet ( at least I hope not, being only 3 weeks old ) but I may end up changing them fairly soon. I absolutely hate pads that aren't 100% ceramic, because of the brake dust. I just like to have clean wheels, and the old metalic, or semi-metalics don't allow clean wheels for more than a couple of days.

I hope these pads do last longer than they did on my GP GXP, those front ones only lasted about 15,000 miles. :eek:hno:

Now my Silverado, on the other hand, has 196,000 miles on the original pads. Gotta love GM truck quality. I'll buy more GM pads for this when needed, because I'll never have to replace them again. :happy:

I like the GM low dust pads... (ever seen those BMW's and Mercedes) with dark rims from all the dust?

But my 03 Trailblazer- rear pads are still factory pads-- at 157,000
the fronts where changed out at 77,000. (and this is with me driving in So Cal rush hr- bumper to bumper traffic).

GM pads can blacken rims as well .... depending how the driver stomps on the brakes and how often.. always a good indicator of poor driving habits.

My '02' T.B. had 146,213 when it left my garage, still had all original pads. But I'm a constant downshifter, don't need to do the brake stomp, as many do.

Yup- excellent pads on the Trailblazer... I find the Traverse leaves more dust than the Trailblazer did....
But considering the stop and go driving I do in rush hour traffic-- I was very pleased with the front going 77,000 (with 20% left)...

I just replaced the rear brakes on my 2016 AWD Traverse. The left rear pad got stuck in the caliper slider and ground itself Down until I heard metal on metal grinding. Took it to the dealer and I’m on the hook for the total repair. GM is looking into it. I think it’s mechanical issue and should be covered. Only 18000 mostly highway miles.
I have owned Chevys my whole life. Not going to buy another if this is the case.
