2012 LS AWD - 120k miles in upstate Rochester, New York (Harsh winters with SALT!) Recently, had an error with ABS off / Stabilitrak disabled / AWD off. Took the vehicle to someone to scan the code - Left Rear Speed sensor fault. Installed new wheel speed sensor - code still exists. Root cause was determined to be the magnetic ring that is part of the wheel bearing was gone! It deteriorated and broke off. Bought new wheel bearing and started the replacement. After 8 years of winter salt - the CV Axle was FUSED to the bearing. Had to remove the entire knuckle assembly including the axle. Used a torch heat and remove the bearing, backing plate, brake shield from knuckle and the CV Axle. Reinstalled knuckle assembly, new bearing, new CV axle, reset the codes and the problem is corrected. Question is when will the other 3 bearing mag rings fail? RocAuto.com was used for parts. Great Prices and reasonable shipping.

Q: when will the other 3 bearing mag rings fail?

A: At the most inopportune time!! LOL

Seriously, maybe never. I think yours is the first post I've seen, in 8 yrs on the forum, of a ring "falling off." There have been a few posts with the rings getting dinged up/damaged, though.

I assume you've inspected the other 3. How did they look?

I know this is an old thread but I have a 2010 Chevy traverse and this has happened to me twice( maybe three times I'm checking later as I have a code ) since I bought it in 2011....bearings are good ring bad pee poor setup GM....should be a way to just change the ring.

Upstate salt it rough on vehicles. I snowmobile in the ADK and know what your experiencing.
I hope you used anti-seize putting it back together.
I'd spray oil or Fluid Film or some other thin corrosion preventer on the tone rings to slow down the corrosion.
I've had tone rings rust away on a Sable.
