2023 and Dead Infotainment Center

Which model 2023?

I know on my 2021 Equinox LT, you can restore all the info/entertainment settings to factory default, but it requires use of the info/entertainment screen I believe. Kind of pointless when that system is out.

This is my fear going forward. I see it more and more on the automotive repair channels I follow regularly. All these info/entertainment screens, modules, etc "going bad" and being unavailable or no longer in production. Best you can do is locate a good used unit and have it programmed, or send out what you have and have it repaired.

It cracks me up too, because the dealer finance and insurance people push these extended warranty contracts with emphasis on our vehicles being "rolling computers". "You NEED this coverage". Coverage doesn't mean squat when you can't get parts.

As far as I know, GM dealers and GM warranties don't deal with refurbished electronics. It's either new, or they send you on your way.

Can't send you on your way with a completely dead iPad dashboard. If there is none available what then? Loaner until they find one or your shat out of luck?
I hear you and that's the million dollar question.

I don't know if it's strictly the market that wants giant touch screen iPad dashboards, or if it's mostly the OEMs pushing them on us, but I DO know the trend for the OEMs has been reducing the amount of time they keep electronic parts in production.

I'm guessing this issue is only going to get worse. GM is laying off 1,000 people in it's software and service units.

I saw that in the news. Makes perfect sense. Selling cars like mad that people actually want? Let's lay 1000 people off.
