Yes. Do a search, you'll find lots of threads on bad Gen 2 shifters.
Again, you said it was 7 months & 11k miles ago that they fixed it under warranty.Been out of warranty mileage wise for awhile.
I never experienced the issue, but from what I've read....you're right. The wire repair was just a "band aid" & not the real fixThat in-line shifter wire extension repair was BS from my perspective. It may have prevented it from happening before the problem showed, but after the problem already occurred; you need the updated shifter assembly. I ran into the same issue, they did the wire update and less than 2 weeks later it was occurring again. Difference in my case is both happened under the factory warranty period.
If they are saying it’s a different part now, push them on why the issue wasn’t fully fixed the first time and they just delayed the real repair until it was out of warranty.
It is still under warranty . Call GM 1-800 because I had a problem with my windshield and it was fixed under warrenty. They it was defective and the padding in dash came out bad windshield was loose again. I called and stated two choices. 1 fix it again under warrenty or lemon law filed.First off the vehicle belongs to my friend. He doesn't know I am doing this. At first he really like the Traverse. Great gas mileage and lots of room. May of this year 2020, vehicle started to give a shift into park message when trying to turn off. Was in park and yellow light on push button didn't go out. Tried several times to remedy problem. After a few tries vehicle shut off with no problem. Taken to dealer and under warranty, inline shifter wire jumper was replaced. That was when the mileage was around 27,000. Now 7 months later and 11,000 more miles, it is happening again. Not under warranty now. Is this an ongoing issue?
See the video I posted in Post #7 here:This just occurred on my 2019 Traverse with 30844 miles but warranty expired in December 2021. Waiting to find out cost. They recalled 2017 Malibus for this issue. Why not other vehicles? Several class action law suits have been filed but they appear to be state specific.
Maybe someone could clarify this for me. After I watched a couple videos it seems that its really just the lever switch that's failing, and specifically the contacts are getting crudded up. If that's it, as a more direct, lasting fix wouldn't it make sense to put in a high quality, sealed switch and be done with it?watched a couple of you tube videos, about an hour getting to and putting back the plastic surrounding the shifter and a paper clip..
so simple, even a cave man can do it....
no more "shift to park" issues..
also did a few other things to prevent other future problems..
no way was I going to the dealership for this one..
