2010 Power lift gate

Hi I’m having an issue with my power lift gate. It will work by key fob or if the vehicle is off. I can press the button inside the vehicle also and it will open but if it is running, in park and all the doors are unlocked, it will not open. It used to and here recently it quit. Can anyone help me figure this out because my husband is at a loss?

I'm not 100% positive but it may be an issue in the Transmisson range sensor or its connections. The system uses it to lock out the rear hatch for safety when not in park and it may have an internal issue.
I would try unplugging its connector and cleaning its contacts with an electronic contact cleaner as a first step.
Also clean the Body Control Module connectors as well.
