So I'm almost done with my punch list on my 71k 2009 Traverse 2LT. I have one other thing left to address, getting the rear vents to blow heat again. I know it worked when we bought the truck in December, but from there until now, it has stopped working, it just blows cold air.

I've checked the level of coolant and while it was a little low in the expansion tank, the radiator was full. I topped off the expansion tank to the full cold line when it was cold and no change. The driver's side and passenger's side temp and location controls work fine. The rear works as far as floor or vent but it will be blowing cool air no matter what the temperature it set to.

I've read about faulty actuators and HVAC resets. Before I tear apart the interior to replace an actuator that may or may not be bad, what exactly are the procedures for the HVAC reset? I've searched and have seen different things. I know you have to pull the HVAC fuse and leave it out for awhile, but is it the one in the interior fuse box or under the hood or both? I've read to turn the temperature control to Auto and then shut off the car, pull the fuse, wait 10 minutes, install the fuse, start the car and the HVAC system will be set to 74 degrees and then start to re-calibrate itself. Is this correct? Any input is appreciated.

get back there- and have someone move the selector and listen for the actuator to make nose as it moves. (leave engine, radio off) put your ear to the panel back there.

Where "back there" am I going :smile_big:? I've played with the rear controls from the 2nd row and the controls activate the location of the air flow, but the temperature is always the outside air.

way in the back- passenger side.
by the storage compartment.


in this video-- you can see the location of the air blower in the rear- with the actuators mounted on it.


In that video he had to replace the condenser etc.. so you would not need to do all the removal.
But you would have to remove or pry back the plastic to access them..




@2:30 you can see the actuator on the blower assembly.
but you can see where the part is located.

Well now I know where the heater core is least for the back. This looks like a warmer weather time job, but I'll start with checking the coolant hoses to that rear core for leaks. I'm not seeing anything on the ground, but it who knows with this thing. I'll check my FSM to see if it shows complete routing.

What are the odds that the actuators just need to be re-calibrated with the fuse pulling?
