'17 traverse: front usb won't support phones newer than 5/5s

Just bought a new 2017 Traverse. Love it, except, the front use port does not support phones newer than iPhone 5 and 5s. I didn't get the upgraded radio etc. I cannot Bluetooth my entire phone to the infotainment unit. Just make calls via hands free. However, every now and then I plug my iPhone in through the use of the USB port and I can play my Amazon music through the usb cable. The guys at the dealer said yes, I should be able to.... Couldn't figure out why it doesn't work all the time.

I was told at the dealers that I needed to make sure I had to use the iPhone cable or I would experience combatabilty issues. Bought a $20 cord and it still won't connect to the infotainment unit. I searched it and found out that the usb port will not support phones newer than iPhone 5's.

Can anyone verify this has happened to them or someone else?

Second, why would Chevy sell a vehicle with technology that doesn't support a phone that came out in the last 2 years? I'm not looking for a lot, just to be able to play music from the phone to the infotainment unit using the use port.

Is there a simple update/upgrade or fix to this?

Did you ever find a fix to this? I just bought a 2017 Chevy Traverse LS and am disappointed to find that I can't play music from my iphone pandora or amazon app - it just doesn't register my phone for anything other than making calls (and even that doesn't work well). I can use my very old ipod via usb and play music. Very disappointed in my purchase - wishing I'd gone with a higher trim level.

Interested if anyone ever figured this out. I bought 2017 traverse premier, and voila my android is calls only on USB. For 30 min it connected the entire phone and I had Pandora, but then it stopped. I'm pretty disappointed....

Did you ever find a fix to this? Even just charging on my Samsung S8 still needs an approved smart charger to work instead of directly using the USB port. Was hoping there was an aftermarket solution, but haven't found one yet.

Auto industry is managed by people who are clueless about electronic technology. Apple introduced CarPlay in 2014 and in 2018 Lexus and Honda added it to their vehicles, so a 2-3 year lag. When looking for a new SUV last fall there were few that supported CarPlay.

List is not 100% accurate as it omits the 2018 Traverse which does support CarPlay. With GMC the current statement is that CarPlay is supported on "certain models" so no blanket implementation has been done.



For music I have put thousands of songs onto some USB thumbdrives and these provide me with my playlists much like in the old days of tape drives and CD players only much easier to do. No problems with reception as with FM or XM radio and a much better selection and I am not paying to support right wing religious and politcal nut jobs with a subscription.

This is not for usb connection, but it seems we cant BT stream our music unless we connect and set up before we get moving. We had difficulty with this on a road trip, and found we had to stop and restart car from off to get everything working. Is it possible you are trying to connect while moving?

Having the same issues with my 2017, moving or not it will randomly disconnect, or not sync blue tooth for our iPhone/Ipod. Radio message pops up stating “Device not supported “ even though it was playing seconds earlier. Tried both apple cables and cheap cables same results.

I'm having the same issues. I have a 2016 Traverse with a base model radio (no MyLink that I'm aware of). I can plug my iPhone 8+ into the front USB with an Apple cable and it will start charging and music will start playing, but then it will randomly stop, freeze, shut off, etc. (Sometimes just one, sometimes all three.) I get the same "Device not supported" errors as other postings mentioned. Sometimes it will freeze itself so badly that the radio will reboot itself.

I've brought my car to the dealer and they said they couldn't duplicate the issue, which I believe since it will happen 10 times in one day, then be fine for a few days, then start happening again - it's all random. I tried to find patterns in hitting a bump or it being hot or rainy out, or anything else I can possibly think of, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when it happens. It's incredibly frustrating since I just bought this as a certified pre-owned model from a Chevy dealer in late March. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm using Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, Audible, or any other app. I've never gotten music to stream via Bluetooth to the radio, either. (Voice calls work without issue.)

Has anyone found a solution, workaround, answer, or any other info from Chevy to get this resolved?
