Thumbs down 2018 Trailer Brake Insanity

HELP!!!
We bought a used 2018 LT two months ago, told by the dealer it was equipped with the tow package. Last weekend, had Camping World install a hitch and brake controller to tow a camper. They could not get the Tekonsha controller to work! Would not get signal to the seven pin connector at the hitch... told us a dealer would have to flash the Body Control Module to enable the connection. Called the dealer. They won't touch it---because it's an aftermarket part. There is NO "Genuine GM Parts" brake controller available. NOBODY seems to want to take ownership of this issue.
Has anyone else experienced this insanity? If you found a solution... what was it?

I installed the trailer brake controller myself and it worked fine. The wiring is just a straight through connection to the 7 pin harness. However I did run into a problem where the wire colors were different on the harness and the Traverse so I had to use a multimeter and an automotive circuit test tool to verify which wires were which. Given that we probably have the same brake controller I would guess you ran into the same problem. I will try and take some pictures so you can see which wires I connected where.

I also installed a brake controller with no issues, but my 2020 Traverse had the towing package factory-installed. There are actually a handful of fuses and relays that are needed for the brake controller and trailer wiring to work. See attached for wiring diagrams, which includes fuse/relay locations. Sounds like your Traverse doesn't have the factory tow package. You could check to see if those parts are installed.

If you had to have a hitch installed, it didn't have the towing package. And if that's the case I believe your towing capacity is only 1500 lbs. So getting the trailer brakes to work may be the least of your worries.

Sounds like the dealer wanted to make a sale... and told you what you wanted to hear.
If you had to have a hitch installed, then you did not have the factory tow package.

You say its used... it may be possible the hitch was removed by the previous owners.. but unlikely.
Look to see that you have the V92 code in the options installed on your vehicle.
