GM Extended My Warranty On My Timing Chain

I just received a letter in the mail today that said, "Recently, you took your vehicle to your dealer to have Customer Satisfaction Program 10287 performed. Your dealer reprogrammed the engine control module to prevent premature wear of the timing chain and the illumination of the Service Engine Soon light. Further analysis has shown that the reprogramming may not fully correct this condition for all vehicles; we, therefore, are providing you with additional protection for the timing chain. General Motors is providing owners with addition protection for the timing chain. If premature wear of the timing chain occurs on your 2009 model year Chevrolet Traverse vehicle, equipped with a V6 engine, within 10 years of the date that your vehicle was originally placed in service of 120,000 miles, whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at NO CHARGE. Diagnosis or repair for conditions other than the condition described above is not covered under this special coverage program."

Very good of GM to do this for their customers; I applaud them. I already had my timing chains replaced and I hope that they will not stretch out again. This time I am taking precautions with Mobil 1 Synthetic and going no longer than 5K for oil changes. I also think online forums such as this one helped to influence this decision by GM.

Received my letter also. Will save it with my 09 documentation in the event I may need the fix in the future. So far no problems with the timing chain issue. I always changed oil at 5k or less with Mobil-1.

Glad to see GM stepping up to the plate here, and offering this for those that need it. I am impressed.

Re: GM Extended My Warranty On My Timing Chain

They have been quietly repairing timing chains out of warranty for a while now. They have also been repairing the Steering noise for most people out of warranty as well.

So far so good with my steering no noise now in 6 months.. My dealer told me point blank if it comes back they will deal with it. My warranty ran out just after the lase repair.

i got the letter yesterday too. 10 years 120k miles on the timing chains.. I'm glad for that - I was worried it would happen to me after the warranty ran out!

nice, i was worried for a second. Does this mean i should save all of my oil change receipts? I just bought Mobil 1 from Costco this weekend. Also, i was going to run a magnetic drain plug, should i hold off on that too.

Interesting. So does this mean that those who had their timing chain replaced already will still receive the letter? If so that means the couple who purchased my 07 Outlook should be receiving one as well.
