2010 traverse code P0008

Hi, I have a 2010 Chevy traverse LS. Check engine light is on. Took it to Oriellys and code P0008 popped up. What could the problem be and how expensive does this usually cost to fix?

Marhisa.
This code usually points to the timing chain being worn/stretched.
This can be an expensive job to replace the timing chains.

Look up what others have done when they got this code.

What is the average cost of getting that fixed? The check engine light turned off by itself today. I have an appointment to get it looked at Friday but would like to have some kind of idea on what to expect.

I haven't had to get it done on the Traverse, I'm sure you can search the forum and see what others have paid.

On a Pilot (with a timing belt, designed to be replaced) the cost is around $1000. I'd say you could be looking at twice that since this is not considered a serviceable item so the tear down and put back together could be more challenging.

there have been many reports.
up to $3500.

A member reported labor of $500 + $1xx in parts... but he found a neighbor who was a retired mechanic who did it on the side.

There are 2 ways to do it...
repair it with the engine in the bay---- very tight squeeze....

or-
drop the engine cradle.. (this means front wheels, engine, and transmission are lowered as a whole).

Though in some cases- the light comes on and off for a while.
Some people try and change the oil which helps for a bit.
Others may change the sensor.

But in the end- this really points to the chains.
