2014 Traverse LT water pump leak :-(

Of course all happens after your warranty expires. I thought my Traverse was special because it had ZERO problems during all 67k miles. It came to a change yesterday.
Water pump leaking and $1,200 in dealer repairs. Chevrolet only extended water pump warranty on 2008-2010 SUV models and more recently on 2011-2014 Cruze.
I'll be trying some GM goodwill and chatting with the dealer customer experience manager today.

I keep my vehicles for at least 5 yrs. MOST vehicles I have owned have ended up needing a water pump somewhere along the way.

However, my 2011 Traverse, which I traded with 98K didn't, and so far (knock on wood) my 2017 (50K now) hasn't needed one. My 2009 Mazda6 (100K, 11 yrs old on Halloween) hasn't needed one yet (knock on wood again).

So at least to me, water pumps are sort of "expected." NOT expected are Power steering pumps and timing chains.

My previous vehicle was 2002 Chevy Suburban. After almost 17 years and over 291,000 miles, the original water pump went. Since there was some cancer and brakes all around coming up, I decided it was time to move on. Over the years, I did put 3 power steering pumps and two alternators in it. I sort of wish I put the pump in.

It was a good truck. Water pump can go anytime. The proof. My former 1990 jeep laredo. A few miles leaving the dealer with 0 miles on it the water pump failed a few blocks away from the dealer. Needed to be towed back. I know someone that own a 2013 Mazda 3 with over 150K on it. Never any issues except a belt for the power steering and tires, brake pads. Nothing else.

I just checked and an AC DELCO GM waterpump from Rockauto is $68.00. So, $1100+ in labor? Ouch.

It is a [email protected] of a job in a tight space but it can be done with just basic hand tools....I'd sure try to find someone else to fix it or do the job myself. I think it's awful the way these fwd vehicles are designed making repairs so dammm labor intensive. OUCH!!

GM MSRP is $155. So $1000 labor. Probably doesn't make you feel any better, though!

I bought a spare water pump on ebay... Great price.
I carried it with me- when I took multiple Road trips halfway into Mexico.

Anyways- nothing happened on the trips.
But at home, I noticed the signs of my pump leaking one morning.

I had a trip coming in a couple of days- so I decided to take it in to the local dealer.
I told them to swap out the pump- and that I was supplying my own.

The receipt breakdown was
Parts $37.06 (coolant etc)

Sales tax $3.24
Labor $492.56
Disc Labor -$49.26
Disc Parts -$3.71

Total- $479.89
