2012 Traverse 2LT oil leaking

My truck has 54000 and I just took it in because I seen oil on our 3 year old driveway and I thought or shall I say hoped it was a loose drain plug or oil filter that they didnt tighten well, but they say its leaking from the oil pan,rear main seal,valve cover,timing chain cover and 2 more locations which at the moment I forgot.

Has anyone had this issue with these kind of mikes? No open recalls, car only serviced st the dealer and I even called Chevrolet since a few years ago they issued a recall for oil leaking problems but they just took the info.

Well, there's about 2 ways you could have a leak at basically every seal on the engine as stated in your post.

1. The PCV system is essentially nonfunctional, you have a ton of blowby and are overpressurizing the crankcase and have blown out the seals.

2. You have a leak from one place that is coating everything else and the dealer is too incompetent or lazy to figure out where.


#1 would take a lot of things to go wrong at 50K miles, #2 seems far more likely. Also very likely that since the oil filter is in a terrible place for doing oil changes and it is almost impossible to remove without bathing the front side of the engine in oil, that it may appear as a leak. Particularly if the one doing the oil change is not very diligent about hitting it with a rag during and after the process, and even then the cardboard I park on will get a couple spots over the next day or so.

I'd try a second opinion at another dealer or an independent shop.

Thats a lot of locations to be leaking from......
Im thinking 2nd opinion is needed.



Before you proceed---- take a look at the front motor mount- as it leaks a black fluid when it fails.

I forgot to mention that I do have an extended warranty, but these are good suggestions, it concerned me that I will have more issues after the warranty expires. The dealer has always serviced my vehicles and I trust this dealer, the dealer I used for my Xterra not so much I took my truck in there once and that was enough.

I bet it's the front motor mount as Rbarrios suggested. I just replaced all my motor and transmission mounts (3 in total) this past weekend and I was amazed how much oil came out of the front mount when removing it. I was prepared, but not enough as I swear the **** thing leaked around 1/2 quart of oil everywhere - LOL. The other mounts were actually in really good shape, but I wanted to replace them to make sure and also to have all the mounts wear evenly. The front mount takes the brunt of the force due to the transverse mount of the motor and the torquing of the motor back and forth in that position. The car feels way better now and I don't have noise on acceleration, deceleration and also delayed or lag in throttle response. Check the front subframe near the mount for oil running down it on the side - tell tale sign.

I heard back from the dealer the other day and they found chunks of metal in the oil when they took it apart, they want the engine replaced and is working with the warranty company..hard to believe with this mileage and its always been serviced by the dealer since new. I am shocked they saif it should have been makng alot of noise but even they said it was quiet .

Go to one of the coin operated car washes and clean the engine completely and then see where the leak is apparent. I would suspect a oil pan gasket or simply loose oil pan bolts (need gentle tightening as these are small bolts and easily snapped). The rear seal is the least likely culprit as it would pass oil into the transmission and not all over the engine. The valve cover is also curious as it is not a place for oil to splash up and sit but it too may have loose bolts or a failed gasket.

With my vehicles I always replace the OEM gaskets that have failed with top quality aftermarket ones that are constructed from better materials and have done with with head gaskets, manifold gaskets, and valve cover gaskets.
