New Traverse Owner - Radio question

Hi All.

New Traverse Owner, bought a 2017 LS.

Bought it used and thought I did my research and properly "kicked the tires" prior to purchase. That said, I don't think I asked enough questions about the Radio. The Radio seemed to be just like all the other cars I looked at, however when I paired my phone via bluetooth I quickly realized I cannot do a lot of things. Here's a couple I've found so far:

Cannot stream music via bluetooth

Contacts are not sync'd up. I cannot say "Call Bob" - I have to say "Call 800-555-1212"

In Youtube videos I watched I saw options on the screen to Manage 'Phone' options (icon of an old school handset) however this Radio doesn't have that option. I only have sources of AM/FM/XM/AUX/CD.

Do I need to factory reset, buy an upgrade option, or get a different Radio? Any thoughts?

Thank you everyone.

you can program peoples names/#'s into the vehicle.

which is different than accessing names on phone via BT.

On my 2010- I put in the most used people.
wife, home, and a few other family friends.
I Just hit the phone button and when it says Ready, I say CALL HOME.

Can't stream music via bluetooth on the gen2s either. Only chance for streaming recordings via bluetooth would be an aftermarket.

Thank you for the reply. So the topics I listed are all unavailable with the current Radio, and there isnt an option to upgrade from the dealer?

Have you tried the voice pass-thru for the phone?
Voice Pass-Thru

Voice pass-thru allows access to the voice recognition commands on the cell phone, for example, Siri or Voice Command. See the cell phone manufacturer's user guide to see if the cell phone supports this feature. To activate the phone voice recognition system, press and hold g on the steering wheel for at least three seconds.

hi Sharks - i had a 2016 and just turned it in for a 2019, but remember the bluetooth settings. Your phone should be able to stream music, play directions, etc. via bluetooth. However, even though your phone is paired and connected, you have to select the source as bluetooth from the radio menu. i used the bluetooth source for Google maps, etc. If you have XM and can pair via your phone, you must have a bluetooth 'source' to select.

I was never that successful with the voice recognition, it had too many prompts, couldn't understand me, although i have a neutral accent, and just overall frustrating. Instead, i just dialed directly from the phone, then once connected, use the interior speakers and mic just fine.

It was a great car - probably the only one I've had with NO visits to the dealer for any issues or recalls. I turned it in w/45K miles and hope the 2019 is just as reliable... just keep an eye on the oil - mine sucked oil, at least a q+ /10Kmi - no smoke or leaks, probably blow by..
