backup warning

I have 2017 Travisty LT.

When backing up with nothing in the way in the back or on either side, the backup warning will beep once or twice. For instance I could be in completely open parking lot. Go into reverse and back up slow or fast and the warning beep will sound once or twice. In all other instances it works as intended, such as when backing into parking space or near building or structure.

Is this typical? It's bit annoying.

On another but similar problem, I do a fair amount of towing. Of course the back-up cam or warning is not useful with a trailer. Is it possible to retrofit a back-up warning to the trailer to work with the car?

If you use non-OEM sensors, I'm guessing you will need more than just the sensors. There has to be some electronics that's using the sensor signal to determine distance, because it beeps faster as you get closer to stuff. Non-OEM sensors may not play well with the Traverse electronics. If you had the same Traverse sensors and could just wire them with a relay to switch from the bumper sensors to the trailer sensors, you might do OK.
