2010 Traverse Steering Wheel Play

Hi I’m new here, 1st post. I just bought a 2010 Traverse that’s in great shape only 71,000 miles. Bought it from a Chevy dealer and then brought it to my normal Chevy dealer for a inspection. No major issues found, told me it was a great find and in good shape. However to me it feels like the steering wheel has some play to it, feels loose to me. Curious if anyone has thoughts on what that may be or if it’s common? My wife will be using it primarily and driving my two toddlers around with it, need to know it’s safe.

Thanks for any help

most likely the steering gear bushing.
It usually makes a clunking sound. Usually in cold weather.

What happens is the bushing gets hard and elongates a bit- allowing a little bit of movement
So usually winter- when going in/backing out of driveway- youll hear a clunk.

Its not detrimental to your driving.
The bushing can be replaced when the PS rack is replaced.
Since its an involved job.... thats when youd want to replace it.

If you have worn suspension pieces- the noise may be more apparent.

2010 FWD LT1-Gold Mist Metallic- seats 8.
Build Date- July 31, 2009-2nd day of Spring Hill 2010 production.
