We just received our first cold spell this week and my Driver Info Centre message says two low tires and the low tire warning light stays on.  I have checked the tires visually and see nothing different from before.  Is the tire monitoring system sensitive to cold weather??

Shouldn't be but your tire pressures will drop when it gets cold.  You will not be able to easily see a 5-10 psi pressure drop visually.

If you do not have a pressure gauge buy one and check the pressures.  I am guessing they will be low due to the colder weather.

Today mine just DIC said something along the lines of Low Tire Pressure Check Right Rear.  After moving through the DIC menus the RR was 27psi and the LR was 30 psi the fronts where 31PSI.  I cranked up the air pump and put them back to 40 PSI. 

Strangely however going  back to the DIC they read 36 and 38 for the front and 35 for both rears.  So it appears that the TPMS is off by a bit.   The low tire pressure warning didn't come back on.

Or your other gauge is off.  I would tend to believe the TPMS sensors before a hand held analog gauge.

You run yours tires at 40??.....I think the posted pressure is 35....but now with the cold here in Canada, the pressure seems to drop real quick...I don't fill them again till they hit 32....that is how quick it drops....maybe 40 is a good idea??..and they will drop to around 35???

The cold weather will make your tire pressure drop- and your TPMS will detect this.
many times if youre on the border of  ok and nearing low-- it will be enough to set off the low tire pressure warning.
This is what I do-------
Youre supposed to check your tire pressure when COLD. (for example sitting overnight).
This is what I do----
check pressure in the morning- if any are low- I go to the gas station thats about 3 blocks away--- and I air up the tires (I also use a digital gauge- that I find is very close to the TPMS sensors)...
I air up the tires to the specs posted on the decal.....
I have found- that when I do this- once I get on the road- the air pressure goes from about 32 PSI cold-- to about 36..

Now I live in Los angeles- where our 'cold' mornings are 35-45 currently....

so you guys in much colder regions- youll have to check pressure accordinly-- since you have much colder temps.

also with airing up to 40 PSI- id would really check to see how high that pressure goes once the tires have been on the road for a while........
its possible that they could be reaching the MAX pressure-- maybe exceeding?

On my 2005 jeep every winter the tire sensors go off and tell me my tires are low. The traverse is now saying the same thing. It is normal and you are not going to see a couple PSI drop by just looking at the tire. Get nitrogen in them or fill them up so the sensor wont go off. No biggie.

I would fill them up to factory spec- on a cold night...
that way- the next similarly cold night- the pressure will drop to the factory spec- and the light wont bother you (unless it gets even colder than the cold morning  you set it).
Then when temps warm up again- adjust pressure accordingly....

I do have the Large Tires Zoom edition (LTZ)  So the Max PSI is 44 PSI on the 20 inchers.  When not hauling anything I leave it at around 40 for comfort.  I have had them up to max pressure when towing because of the added weight.  This was by recommendation of my mechanic.

Many have complained on the other sites that the 09 TPMS's are off by about 2 psi.  I know mine are.  And I have tested against a digital and an actual round pressure guage.  They were both the same.  So don't always trust the TPMS.  Compare off of serveral types and pick the closest one.

Something to remember is that the manufacture specs the tires out at the pressure that is listed on the door and in the owners manual.  Inflating the tires to match the sidewall match does not allow for expansion when they warm and also gives you a stiffer ride.  The TPMS is very accurate if you feel they are off go to the dealer and have them check your sensors with the calibration tool they use when tires are rotated then see where they are.
