When last we spoke, I was the proud owner of a pre-owned 2010 Traverse, which had previously been a rental unit.  In some cases, as mine, the rental units are ordered (for some asinine reason) without OnStar, XM radio, or Bluetooth!

I'm still the happy owner of the Traverse, which really has had no problems other than a flat tire!  I have, however, made changes to compensate for some of the items deleted from the rentals order list.

First was adding satellite radio.  I had installed an ISimple gateway and Sirius tuner that works through my standard radio and is mounted invisibly in the radio bay.  I've had Sirius subscriptions for some time and prefer it to XM, so I'm happy. All functions and displays work thru the standard radio, including steering wheel controls.  As an added bonus, it includes an IPod connection so I now have @ 40GB of music, etc. from my IPod!!  Audio entertainment problems solved!!

I just had installed a Parrot CK300 Bluetooth module along with a P.A.C. Blu-GM29 adapter to run the Parrot thru factory radio and controls.  The BestBuy installer guys are still working out the kinks, but this has solved my bluetooth issue.  Now I just have to worry about the government outlawing ALL use of cellphones while driving - whether hands free or NOT.

That's about it for now!!

I dont think all rental cars are equal as I just bought a used Hertz car that came with all of the things you mentioned.  Factory blue tooth, XM, and Onstar are all part of the deal.  Dealer threw in an after factory DVD player as well but all the other stuff was already installed from the rental company.  Mine is a 2012 2 LT however.

Well done, Kemosabe!  Let's not forget that you also added a Homelink transmitter to your Traverse.  That in turn led me to add the functioning lights to my Homelink unit which GM had removed from the 2010 models (except a few early build units).

Mine was a Hertz LT also!! I can't imagine why they would NOT include all that stuff, how much could they be saving???  Maybe they wised up?  Mine had about 8K miles when I bought it from CarMax!!

Thanks for reminding me!!  The Homelink was a nice addition that didn't come with my rental veteran either.  I now have it, courtesy of ebay!!  No lights on mine though!!

well if they buy 1000 rentals- and remove xm,onstar- im sure that adds up to some savings...

It is interesting that 1 hertz had it- the other did not.
Though I do know I have seen RPO codes for Enterprise specifically.

Well, my friends - once again I've spoken too soon.  I've had nothing but trouble with the P.A.C. BLU-GM29 since install.  It keeps going dead on me, taking the radio, rear back-up sensors, etc, with it.  I've had it back to BestBuy three times and the guys are nice enough to reboot it by disconnecting it, but it only works for a little while and then gets confused, shuts off, and I lose all audio!!!!  I've got an appointment on Monday to take it out, and I'm gonna tie it to a cinder block and return to P.A.C. C.O.D.!!!!  I've called "Tech Support" three times and its like talking to "Peggy"!!!  They're just NOT interested in resolving it.  The POS is plug & play for Christ's sake, and doesn't require any splicing, dicing, or power connection.  It just doesn't work!!!!!!

So much for an integrated Bluetooth.  Maybe I'll try an OnStar F.M.V., but I hear their audio isn't too good!!

UPDATE:  I replaced the PAC unit with a Parrot CK-3000 unit.  Subsequent comments apply to it.  I still have minor issues, but all works most of the time!!

So - I've created an accommodation!

When the unit goes dead - I turn off the ignition, open the driver's side door, and while open, turn on the ignition and presto, the unit and everything else goes back to working.  Sometimes I have to re-pair my phone, sometimes not!!  Well - at least it works some of the time!!

It works enough that I guess I'll keep it (the Parrot CK-3000).

My alternative has been using the Bluetooth in my Garmin GPS, but I don't want to give some JackAss an excuse to break a window in my car to steal the GPS.  I can just put the GPS in the 'verse when I need it for navigating.

I MUST say that I do like the Sirius adapter I installed that also allows me to keep an IPod plug in all the time.  I have over 40gb of music on the IPod and listen to it ALOT!!  Maybe I'm just expecting the LAN to handle too much???
