My wife was putting an air freshener on the left center vent and ended up pushing it in and it dropped back in the vent and I cannot see it now because it must of dropped further down.  Has anyone had the dash or bottom apart to see if you can get in there and see if I can reach it?

It might be easier to try and pull the vent off and see if you can retrieve the air freshener

Go to your wife's closet, and pull out a metal hanger, and straighten it out. Use this as a retreival tool to try and get the air freshener back out, after the vent face is taken off. It may not work, but at least she won't do it again.  Happy

i wonder if its going to make its way down to a point that it may get trapped/interfere with the mode doors (the ones that open/close) to balance the air?

the other option to consider- is removing the BLOWER MOTOR- and maybe trying to see if you can see the item thru those tubes.
The blower motor is on the passenger area. right behind the glove box.
If im not mistaken its actually easy to remove the motor- as it drops right down.
Theres a post around the lambda forums with pics on how to remove the motor...

I had the center out and the radio but don't see what to take apart next.  I might try to take the blower motor off once and see if I can see it there.  The comment about the air freshner getting in the way of the opening and switching from vent to defrost I thought about and tried all the options and it doesn't interfere with anything so far but would like to get it out.  Does anyone know how the center vent covers come off?

I dropped the blower motor but there's a screen there and you cannot reach up any further.  I also took the bottom side panel off and could get at the bottom vents but didn't see anything.  I think those are seperate anyway from the center upper ones.  Does anyone know how to take the center vent screen off?  I could then try to put a shop vac hose down there or something.  I cannot see it at all but it bugs me.  Do you think it will interfere with the vent switching operation?  I might just leave it until it actually causes a problem.  Any suggestions?

You could use one of these:

http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/cs25pa.html?CMPID=CSE_Googleshopping&zmam=85491576&zmas=1&zmac=45&zmap=166-Mini-Snake-Cam

And then pick yourself up a "snake" pick-up tool.  I have one which has three sprung fingers on the end of the tool.  I use it when I drop bolts in the engine compartment.

Together, you should be able to find and retrieve this air freshener w/o disassembling the dash.

you mention a screen..
could this screen be the filter/wire mesh that is supposed to catch debris..
Look up ADDING an AC filter  there will be pics of the mesh or filter some have or dont have.

I have a clue on how to remove the vents...

see my pic below.. removing the bezel for the radio is quite easy... you wont need to remove radio...(but if you do- its only 4 screws and it slides right out...I pulled on the bezel carefully and it pops off...
But the following are from kevin 07xr on the outlook forum- a member who added Nav to his Outlook.
But looking at my pic and the pics for removing the bezel off an OUTLOOK...
you see what I see??? especially the last pic ( I didnt use a took to pull off bezel- just used fingers and light pulling)

on the outlook the vent cover is part of the front bezel.
on the traverse the bezel comes off with out the vent bezel.
but chances are you may just need to pop that off--- and possibly remove the top storage compartment...
But if you were able to remove the blower motor-- I think youll be able to remove the cover by a little eyeballing...

Thanks for the pics.  I had the front bezel off and the radio out the other day and saw three tabs on the bottom of the vents to snap off but I think I need to get the top compartment out first and then it might pop off.  I'm going to try tomorrow night or this weekend, I'll keep you updated!!

I had the top compartment out (one screw under the mat) but then I looked to unclip the vent cover and that won't help because it is also has tabs into the side trim and that would mean to take almost the whole dash piece out, which only having this car not even a week, I don't want to do.  I'm not one to give up on a challenge but I really don't want to take my brand new car apart.  I'll address it if it ever causes a problem, which would only be if it got in the way of the door that transitions it to vent to defrost to floor, which so far it has not and we have not heard a noise since it dropped out of sight.  Thanks for the help everyone!!  I look forward to conversing more on this site!!  So far we love the Traverse!

This may be pretty low tech, but how about closing all vents and using painter's tape to seal all vents except the one with the air freshener,  to create more pressure at the offending vent.  remove grille from vent with air freshener; System on recirculate, blower on high and use a vacuum cleaner with a narrow hose and get the hose in as far as you can, try to suck it out.  May be easier than taking apart the car.
