2nd timing chain in need of replacement after just 30k ( already done under warranty at just under 60k and needs it again at 91k). Yes, I change my oil and know the OLM is worthless! Of course the dealership doesn't give a rip. Just got another P0008 code.
Has anyone had luck fighting for assistance on repairing this multiple times? I see no shortage of threads :surprise: Wake up GM and extend the warranty on the '10s that are just as plagued as the '09s.
My 2010 is the worst late model vehicle I've had. I come from a GM employed\faithful family but this vehicle stinks.
Oh, don't believe internet rumors that late '2010s are ok for the timing chain issue. Mine was a late May production.
darn 2nd one.....
During your intervals-- are you making sure the oil is up....
Many owners dont check the oil level...????
I have a 2010- early production.. #56 of the factory line...- as in 1st/2nd day of 2010 production... so built in July 2009.
At 127,500- no chain issues yet..... knock on wood--- and running Regular oil to 5000 intervals.
I do check my oil level every weekend... and I make sure that my oil level stays at MY true full level....
For example- after 4200 miles on my current oil interval-- Ive added 1 qt of oil to make sure the level stays up to the full level..
What do I consider full?
I drain my oil-- and let it drip till its seconds between drips.
I change filter (PF-48(e) as per AC DELCO), and refill with 5.5 qts.
Once the car is driven- and sits overnight- I take a look at the dipstick-..... this is what I consider to be the TRUE Full level....
om my similar 3.6 in the Equinox.
same thing-- drain, replace filter, refill with 6 qts...
for this- I did not add oil and took note of how much oil came out (I measure the oil drained)-- and at the FULL mark-- only 5.1 qts of oil drained out..... ummm yeah, already 1 qt low. (6500 miles on drain interval)
They did nothing to correct the actual issue. Changing the oil often just keeps the oil in better shape so it flows into the timing chain cover and keeps the chain cooler.
The issue is the oil journals feeding the timing chain cover are to small. When the 3.6 Camaro engine came out in 2010 they put a double chain in it and they increased the horsepower so they they made the journals larger to feed the bigger chain and keep it cool.
This corrected the issue with the 3.6 block. It was fixed in all of the other vehicles simply because they made the change for the block to support the Camaro's and all of the 3.6 had this change so no more issue.
I think they fixed without even realizing it.
If you truly want it to stop get a new build date engine and put it in.
I'm not sure if the oil journals could be made larger.
Hope this helps. May not be what you want to hear.
I suspected the issue would come back as 2009 stock engines aged and they had build up in them slowing the oil flow down.
I'm the other guy fighting GM on my second timing chain gone bad. So far I'm getting a lot of pushback and little help. I've been fighting for over a month.
Just curious, how many miles were you changing your oil out at? Did you get any kind of recommendations after they replaced your first timing chain as to how to take care of your vehicle correctly? I surely did not.
