Get the 30000 mile tune up or not worth it?

I get my 2010 Traverse serviced at a local GM dealership. They stated since mine has 33000 miles I needed to get the service recommended. The cost is approx. $400. My vehicle has been well maintained with regular oil changes and tire rotation and the 27 point inspection. I'd like some feedback please on if it really is worth the $400+, or is it a money thing for them? Thanks for the help.

Can't see anything being needed at 30,000 miles

The fist Maintenance scheduled items in the owners manual are all at 50,000 miles.

Air Cleaner, Change Transmission Fluid, All-wheel drive Transfer Case fluid change

Then nothing till 100,000 miles.

They seem to be a little early with this.

Man, $400 for the 330,000 mile service ain't bad!!! (I assume you REALLY meant 33,000 miles? If so, I think he's looking for work.)

I'd service the transmission fluid at 50,000 at a minimum...

He only said 33,000. If you have any spare zeros, I'd love them added to my paycheck!

Re: Get the 30000 mile tune up or not worth it?

im sure that $400 includes a fuel filter change? (no serviceable fuel filter on traverse)

But you can pass on that service.
(by the way can you list what they would do?).

Take your $400 and do the following...
buy 1 can of throttle body cleaner $5. (this will work for the next 20 throttle body cleanings).
buy several bottles of techron fuel system cleaner. (buy them on sale- 2 for 1). ($12 total).
Buy 11 quarts of DEXRON VI full synthetic trans fluid $77 if its on sale at $5.99 each) and save it for a partial trans fluid change at 50,000

You still have $305 left.....

Techron- simply pour in tank

throttle body

@lookin4new1, you can also talk with the service manager to have him/her explain why they recommend this being done. This might help you decide.

There's nothing in the manual that is due at 33k. Keep doing the Oil Changes and rotations till 50k, then do the recommended stuff.

Re: Get the 30000 mile tune up or not worth it?

Personally I think that changing the trans fluid is a waste of money. Same goes for the techron (aka snake oil), I have a 2002 Olds Minivan with 159,000 miles. Transmission fluid is original from the factory and it shifts as smooth as the day it came off the dealer lot. As long as it's not leaking or slipping, I'd leave it alone.
