Tire Pressure Monitor Question, did the sensors change?

I bought a set of wheels OEM with sensors for my 2010 Traverse. They were for snow tires. The wheels are definitely from before 2013 and when I changed the wheel/tires, i set the car into sensor mode, bled out a few pounds of air, got the horn horn honk and did the next wheel, etc., no problems.

I mounted the same wheels on my 2016 and guess what, I doubt if the sensors are compatible. The new car requires a tire pressure sensor reset tool.

Is there any point in getting the tool and trying it wth my sensors?.

By the way, controls and feel between 2010 and 2016 versions are remarkably alike, except that new car smell. Love this SUV.

thanks in advance

That depends on how much you want to look at the tire pressures.

It shouldn't effect the way it drives as cars built much before 2007 didn't have TPMS and ran just fine.
If your fine with checking them every so often with an air gauge then you should be fine.

I bought a "tool" to reset my tires when I rotated them and knew it was only a matter of time before they wouldn't
allow or enable us to reset them by letting air out etc.

I wouldn't think you would have to buy a tool. Some tire dealers must have a tool and even if they charged
a few bucks to set yours it might be worth it.

Then again, if you are going to be taking wheels on and off every winter it might be worth having your own tool. JMO.

Before you buy a special tool, take the vehicle to a tire dealer and see if they can reset the sensors with their tool. Some dealers may do it free, others for a small fee. You can also ask the dealer if the sensors for the two years are different part numbers. If they are you may have to purchase all new sensors if you want that feature to work with those wheels.

Carry an air pressure gauge (you should anyway) and if the alert comes up, you just check all the tires. Cost = $0. (Since you need a gauge anyway.)

No, my issue is that none of the 'old" sensors are read in the 2016 and I have the tire icon lit up on my info screen. I guess a call to the dealer will solve this and I'll report. Letting air out does not match the sensors.

the 2016 part #13586335 has been replaced by 13598771

(these are the same part # for my 2010)-- so technically should work on the 2016.

does the 2016 enter the learn mode by pressing the keyfob buttons?

the hand tool- simply activates the sensor much faster than letting air out...
I had a 2007 impala that was a pain to relearn the 4th sensor--- no matter how much air was let out.. the 4th sensor (regardless of what unit went 1st-- never learned and timed out)... yet with the tool-- it learned the sensors right away.

I bought my tires at Walmart and have them rotated there. They have a tool and reset my TPM sensors when the tires are rotated. So yea find some place that will set them for you. But if the 2016 requires a tool it probably won't be a bad idea to buy one.

They're not cheap. $50 is the cheapest one I found:

This one only lists cars up to 2013, so not sure if it' will do the new ones. Purchase with care!

Wow, I didn't think they were that much. I thought one time I read that rbarrios had one. If you read this rbarrios do you have one and where did you get it?

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor Question, did the sensors change?

I do have the 'GM version'.. the Kent-Moore EL-50448.

It was about $80 when it 1st came out...
I bough it from the company that sells to GM.

which was cheap- compared to the tool dealers were using which was $1000 (did alot more than resets)---.... these cheap ones could be dropped etc-- without potentially damaging a $1000 unit....
