2012 traverse battery going dead.....

hi all,
about a month ago my wifes car battery randomly started going dead over night. At first it was every few nights, now it is every night. We go out to start the car and the battery is always down to 5 volts. I have cleaned all of the battery terminals, load tested the battery, removed and had the alternator tested for open diodes etc. Everything has checked out fine, yet the battery keeps going dead. Do you have any input on what may be causing this

2012? First thing I'd do is buy a new one!

remove a battery terminal and measure the draw with everything off. There should be a minimal current flow. If there is a significant draw you will need to find what is not turning off.

measuring draw can be done with a multimeter correct? Disconnect the postive cable and hook the meter in line with the positive cable and terminal?

And no, i wont be buying a new one, 2012 is plenty new.

2012 is plenty new.? Really? Any battery over 4 years old would be not too dependable. Make sure you carry jumper cables.

The battery isnt the problem. It has been load tested and does not go dead when disconnected from the vehicle.....

OK so monitor the battery as the vehicle sits. Check the voltage and determine if it is going down. Disconnect each load one by one if it is diminishing to determine the culprit. Save the Computers for last as they draw current all the time anyway.

If his 2012 was built in the fall of 2011, his battery could be over 5-1/2 years old!! He should be replacing it anyway. Even if it's still load testing good today, it could (and very likely might) die next week.

Oh, well, what the heck do we know?

Re: 2012 traverse battery going dead.....

Thank you for the replys. I found last night that the drivers seat was acting funny. Wh.en i went to move it, i had to cycle the switch until it finally moved on the 3rd try. im thinking maybe a motor or switch problem may be draining it.

as for green traverse's comment. I fully understand the life expectancy of batteries. The ac delcos in my silverado were ten years old when i finally swapped them out. Im glad that you change parts before they are actually the problem, but i wont. I have a carbon pile tester as well as a tester that checks each individual cell. Its been tested 3 times and still, is not the problem. But thank you for your input.....

Better get access to a TSB site....you'll likely need it.

Assuming you FULLY charge the battery (not just jump start and drive 10 miles) and it still goes dead overnight?

Check TSB # - 178441 or PI0412B "No Crank/No Start, Dead Battery Due to Parasitic Drain/Discharge", involves the OnStar system. One of the diagnostic techniques is to pull the fuse (doesn't say which it is) to see if a parasitic draw of 380mA drops when fuse is pulled.
