Power Steering problems and the "Special" warranty 14329

My 2011 traverse has 120,000 miles on it and my wife reported issues with the power steering I investigated and the symptoms were exactly the same as the special warranty 14329 which covers the power steering components. I took the vehicle to the dealer who investigated and said that the seals on both the power steering pump and the steering gear had blown out and were leaking fluid. Since their was a leak involved the special warranty would not cover the work and quoted my $2000 to repair. My response was I find it very odd that both parts failed at once and it is not related to the special warranty and I have owned enough vehicles to know that complete PS failure are 120,000 miles is very rare and that I would like proof that the warranty problem didn't cause these seals to blow out. Currently I am having the vehicle repaired as I need the vehicle I have submitted a case to Chevy customer care and so far the only thing I have been offered is a $2500 voucher on a new vehicle purchase which I stated I was not interested in. My view on that offer is that it really has 0 value as even without that I could get 2500 off a vehicle and they already know my trade has no real value so all my bargaining power would be removed. Has any one had success getting this warranty to cover the repair work it seems all I read online is the same exact story I have

Good luck, I had the same issue before they issued the special coverage on the pump. Pump on my '10 started whining and blew out and took out the rack. $2500 later new pump and rack. 6 mos after GM announces special coverage, I submit to have the full bill reimbursed. Dealer says only covers the pump. Bull**** I tell them, the pump regulator failure overpressurized the fluid and took out the rack. 6 months of arguing and escalating to GM customer service and all I could get back was $900.

Currently trying to prove the exact same point. Their is no way without an internal problem those two parts fail simultaneously and it not be caused by the issue that is covered by the special warranty

I had my pump replaced under the special warranty last year. It was making noise and "seeping" at seals. When the dealer wrote it up they did not mention the seals however. Sounds like the dealer just wanted to soak you for the cost of repairing it.

You could be right but I work in a business that has the same warranty setup as car dealer/manufactures and the dealer typically doesn't care either way because they are either going to get paid by your or the manufacturer and it makes them look better if they don't charge the customer.
The thing from the dealers side is though they were taking a chance with your pump because they are required to send that part back to the manufacturer for inspection and if they find the leakage they can refuse to reimburse the dealer and then the dealer is out the money with no recourse

I have been doing more research on this issue and it is truly staggering when start to look at all the different versions of the lambda how many people are complaining of this issue and the failure of GM to stand behind it. Between this and the timing chain issue I feel GM knows this car is a failure and does not want it on record that they have acknowledged it.

I have the same 2011 traverse with 48k miles on it. It has the same issue recently and dealer asked for $1800 to replace the rack and pinion and it MUST be done BEFORE they work on the steering pump warranty work! After some research online, I just bought a bottle of Lucas power steering stop leak fluid and topped off the reservoir. Right after that, I found the noise of the steering wheel is completely gone. It drives smoothly for a monthly now. The fluid level is not drop yet. I'll keep on checking the fluid level every month to make sure it is not too low. I don't feel a need to spend that much money to replace the rack for now.

Re: Power Steering problems and the "Special" warranty 14329

So after submitting a complaint to my state attorney general GM agreed to give me about $550 of the $2400 I paid back to me. Not really a large percentage but it's more that I thought I was getting. Anyone else should note that simply complaining directly to GM did nothing I had to go through my Attorney General to get even the 550 back

I have contacted GM for this same issue. Today's response was that the warranty was out, plus I was the second owner, so they weren't going to fix it. I drive 3000 miles plus every month, and have proof of steering problems prior to the 150K miles that they shut off at. I found the service bulletin at 151,386. This will be the last GM product that I will ever buy, and I've been a GM owner/driver for 35 years.

They want to bug the crap ought of me for a liftgate recall, and the fact that I haven't taken it in yet for that repair, but can't notify me of the steering issue? I've narrowly avoided wrecks, thanks to this, several times were way too close for comfort.

Am I totally out of luck with my 2012 model... I've just discovered a PS fluid leak and the pump started getting louder this past weekend as if it was cavitating.
