Power steering tsb/recall/fix info

My wife has a 2009 AWD Traverse, and when we first got it the power steering whined slightly, and I had it back to the dealership to be checked to be bled (air), as our 2010 had a severa air+ps problem. Well, I rarely drive it, but we took it to Florida last week on vacation and it drove me NUTS. The whine is really annoying, and at a stop or low speed there is a bit of a "stutter" in the wheel at times...my wife has learned to live with it, but that's not my style.

Has anyone else seen this, is it common, and is it known (and fixable) by the dealer under warranty (34k miles)?

Took our 2010 LS into the dealer last week for the same problem. They ordered a new Steering Gear (rack) for the Traverse and should be in this week.

Same here they have issues with the steering gear failing. They have a new Rack and part# to replace it now. I had mine fixed at 8000 km have 41,000km on it now no issues since replacement part was installed.

There is a TSB on this.

ROBD,

I am glad to read that the dealership is taking care of you and the vehicle. Please, let us know how it goes and how the vehicle handles after you get the work done to it.

I noticed the the same annoying noise on my 2010. Dealer changed the SIR Coil and that did not work, so they changed the power steering gear box. Super quite so far. The box cost 536.00 and another 300.00 to install. Thank god it was under warranty.

22500 miles on vehicle.

Re: Power steering tsb/recall/fix info

Can anyone point me to the bulletin(s) regarding the rack & pinion replacement, or any other power steering related issues? I've had to show them a bulletin in the past before getting warranty work before...

If you can, go to another dealer. When I dropped off my truck, I told them I think I have a problem with the steering rack, or what they call steering gear, and told them the noise it was making and that a lot of people on the internet have had the same problem.

I waited for about 45 mins in the waiting area and the service manager came out and told me right away it was the steering rack, didn't give me a hard time at all. They even had the part in stock so I picked up the truck at noon the next day.

Our LS had that issue to. If you could try to look back and search for previous threads, it had something to do with the power steering line beside and rubbing against an A/C line or something to that effect. Our LS got fixed after fixing that issue. It's very quite now.

Took it in today to get the steering gear replaced. They had a problem removing exhaust to get to rack. Will be done tomorrow. I will post how it functions when we get it home.

We've already had it in for that, after reading about it here @ TF. We're sitting @ 35k miles, so I'd like to get this fixed before it's on my dime...but with the actual tsb they're not always receptive.
